the room temperature seemed to drop, your expression forming into one that would be described as displeased.
"before you ask how i know, word does spread by fast," she mused, her striking red hair glistening under the school's shitty ceiling lights.
you continued to stay silent, your glare hardening every time she opens her mouth. despite your serene expression, red could tell you were seething with the way your jaw was clenched, the look in your eye practically screaming silent rage.
red, who usually kept her head high with confidence and always had her vape on her, looked more weak. her complexion remained the same, sharp and mean looking as ever, but you could see past her small smile.
the bags under her eyes grew heavier, and the uncommon bloodshot eyes were now more visible than before. she reeked of alcohol, and you stepped back unconsciously, staring at her warily.
when she finally broke the silence, her voice was a tight whisper, "[y/n], i.. i messed up. i shouldn't have followed craig, i'm sorry." her voice nearly cracked, laced with desperation to reconcile, but her apology hung in the air, seemingly unheard.
your arms were crossed, your face wearing a mask of profound pain, and she couldn't even look at her properly. you were present, but entirely closed off, almost like pebbles hitting a stone wall.
it wasn't that you didn't hear her; it was that you wanted to be petty and also because you simply refused to listen, your pain still fresh to allow for forgiveness.
the air remained heavy, thick with many unspoken words. red watched you, frantically searching for any sign that her apology had even registered through your brain. your body was angled just slightly away from her, your gaze refusing to clash with hers.
"you walked away,"
red stiffened, your words hitting her like a truck. she knew exactly what you were mentioning.
"i was left in the rain, while you and craig laughed with each other, leaving me behind after breaking my heart like it was nothing." you mutter, "you just walked away even after seeing me beg and cry on my knees. because of what? because craig is family?"
red stayed quiet. she knew you were in the right- to be hurt, feel betrayed, and not want to speak to both of them- but another part of her wished you would just listen to her.
