The next day, Shubman met Abhishek during lunch and told him about what had happened with Ishan. Abhishek listened intently, and as Shubman finished, Abhishek burst into laughter.
“Tuhje toh bohot daat padi hogi Ishan Sir se!” Abhishek teased, unable to control his chuckles.
Shubman rolled his eyes but couldn’t help the small smile tugging at his lips. “Not really. He didn’t even get angry. He just... made me understand that it was wrong. Like, calmly. Who even does that?”
Abhishek shook his head, still laughing. “Bro, Ishan Sir is literally too good for you, you monkey monster! I mean, how did you even land him? You're like chaos, and he’s all calm and perfect.”
Shubman feigned a hurt expression. “Acha? Matlab main itna bura hoon?”
Abhishek smirked. “Haan, tu toh pura ka pura disaster hai! But somehow, Ishan Sir sees something in you. Maybe he likes living on the edge.”
Shubman laughed, shaking his head. “Shut up, idiot. You wouldn’t understand. He’s... special.”
Abhishek pretended to wipe a tear. “Aww, look at you getting all soft for him. I never thought I’d see the day Shubman Gill, the ‘bad boy,’ would turn into a lovestruck puppy.”
Shubman smirked. “Bas bas, jyada mat bol. Tujhe kya pata pyaar kya hota hai.”
Abhishek rolled his eyes. “ Excuse me mera bhi ek sweet sa boyfriend hai........ Just don’t mess this up. Ishan Sir deserves all the happiness, and surprisingly, you seem to give it to him.”
Shubman nodded, a rare serious look crossing his face. “I know. And I’m not messing this up. Ever.”
Shubman leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. “Abb se... main achha baccha banne ki koshish karunga,” he said, his voice surprisingly sincere.
Abhishek, mid-bite of his sandwich, choked and coughed dramatically. “Tu? Aur achha baccha?” He rolled his eyes so hard it was almost theatrical. “Duniya khatam hone wali hai kya?”
Before Shubman could retort, his eyes spotted Shubnil at the other end of the canteen, obliviously munching on a snack. Shubman’s expression darkened as he stood up abruptly. “Vo dekh... vo bkl” he growled. “Uss Mc ke wajah se mera Ishu mujhse naraz hua tha. Mai usse nahi chhodunga.”
Without giving Abhishek a chance to stop him, Shubman marched towards Shubnil, his long strides filled with purpose. Reaching him, Shubman grabbed Shubnil’s collar from behind, making the poor boy yelp in surprise.
“Chal bey!,” Shubman muttered, dragging Shubnil towards his and Abhishek’s table like a parent hauling a misbehaving child.
Shubnil, terrified, stammered, “K-kya hua, Shubman bhai? M-maine kya kiya?”
Abhishek watched the scene unfold with an amused grin, shaking his head. “Aur ye kaha ta hai ki achha bachha' banega.”
Shubman’s grip on Shubnil’s collar tightened as he leaned closer, his dark eyes piercing through Shubnil. “Kyun bola tu, haan? Kyun sach bataya Ishan sir ko?” His voice was low but laced with anger, enough to make Shubnil tremble.
Shubnil stuttered, “M-main... m-main toh—”
“Chup! Jhooth mat bol!” Shubman barked, his tone sharp like a whip. “Ek kaam tha bas, apna muh bandh rakhna. Itna bhi nahi kar sakta tha?”
Abhishek, unfazed by the scene, casually munched on his sandwich, mumbling to himself, “Yeh Shubman kabhi nahi sudhrega.”
Shubnil’s face turned pale, and his lips quivered as Shubman raised a hand, his fist curling into a threatening motion to puch him. Just as the tension in the cafeteria hit its peak, Shubman’s eyes flicked to the entrance—and froze.
There stood Ishan, his warm eyes scanning the room, a soft smile on his cute face as he walked in.
Shubman immediately dropped his hand and released Shubnil, his demeanor changing in an instant. From a raging storm, he transformed into an innocent, wide-eyed boy. “J-ja tu... abhi ke liye bach gaya,” he muttered, pushing Shubnil away.
Shubnil wasted no time scurrying off, while Abhishek snickered. “Ishan sir ka asar hai tujhme, yaar. Tujhe dekh ke lagta hai jaise koi puppy ban gaya ho.”
Shubman ignored him, straightening his shirt and running a hand through his hair as he approached Ishan. He plastered on his most charming smile, acting as if nothing had happened.
“Shubman? Tum yahan ho?” Ishan asked, tilting his head slightly, oblivious to the earlier chaos.
“Haan, sir! Bas... lunch kar raha tha,” Shubman replied innocently, gesturing towards Abhishek.
Abhishek coughed, barely holding back his laughter.
Shubnil stood in a corner, still trembling from the confrontation. He couldn't believe his eyes. Just a few seconds ago, Shubman had been a completely different person—furious, threatening, and ready to strike. His anger had been so intense, so palpable, that Shubnil had genuinely feared for his safety. But now, in front of Ishan, Shubman had shifted so effortlessly into a completely different persona. He was smiling, laughing, and acting like as if nothing had happened, Shubnil took a deep breath and decided it was better not to get too involved.
As they sat together at the table, Shubman carefully placed Ishan’s lunch plate in front of him, making sure Ishan had everything he needed. Abhishek, already used to Shubman’s doting nature around Ishan, smirked to himself and continued eating.
Just then, Mayank walked up with a wide smile. "Hey, Ishan sir!" he greeted, his tone cheerful. Ishan returned the smile and gestured for him to join them. Mayank greeted the group and sat down, sliding into the seat beside Abhishek.
As the conversation continued, Mayank suddenly lit up. "Oh, by the way, guys, my dad just opened a new mall in the city! It’s got everything—amazing food courts, gaming zones, and even a mini-theater. Why don’t we all hang out there this Sunday?"
Abhishek raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "A new mall? Sounds fun. What do you say, Shubman?"
Shubman, who had been sneaking glances at Ishan while eating, shrugged casually. "I'm in if Ishu sir comes," he said with a smirk, making Ishan roll his eyes to hide is blush.
Ishan chuckled lightly and said, "Alright, alright. I’ll come if it works out for everyone. But only if you all behave yourselves."
Mayank grinned. "Great! Then it’s a plan. Let’s meet there at noon!"
Shubman nodded, already imagining spending the day showing off in front of Ishan at the mall. He glanced at Abhishek, who was trying to hold back a laugh at how Shubman’s mood was completely dictated by Ishan’s presence.
As they wrapped up lunch, Shubman leaned closer to Ishan and whispered, "Sunday’s going to be fun, Ishu sir. Better be ready for me to stick by your side all day."
Ishan sighed with a small laugh, knowing there was no way Shubman would let him wander even a few feet away.
