"I didn't change.

I just see things differently now."

Michelle walked through the front door of the school and was met by a full body security scanner and multiple officers checking students bags on the way in. Eli had mentioned this to her in one of his many rants while sitting with her in the hospital so she wasn't surprised but she also wasn't prepared to be patted down like she was in prison.

As she finally got through security, she walked forward a few steps and stood at the base of the stairs. She looked around curiously. While her life was falling apart, everyone else had carried on like its nothing.

Interesting how the world works.

From the top of the stairs, an excited Eli watched Michelle. His mouth hung slightly open as he joined in staring in her direction.

She had changed.

Michelle now had bright red highlights through out her wavy hair and if he angled his head a certain way, he could see the glint of what could only be a brand new nose piercing. She was also wearing all black and red, much like himself. She looked great.

The only thing that bothered him about this new look, was how angry and sad she looked. She was usually pretty peppy at school. Always smiling as she greeted anyone and everyone. But not anymore. Her face told her story clear as day.

From all around the front of the school, people had started to stop and stare. Whispers began spreading and fingers started pointing to the girl still standing at the stairs.

"Whoa, who's the new girl?"

"Not a new girl, dumbass. That's Michelle."

"Didn't her brother get kicked off the balcony?"

"Why is she back? She shouldn't be here."

"Why does she look like that?"

"They haven't caught the guy yet. What happens if she finds him first?"

Michelle turned around abruptly to glare at all of the voices. Eli took that as his cue to jog down the stairs to her rescue. He threw his arm around her shoulder and pulled her up the stairs with him.

"Hey, don't listen to any of them. They don't have anything better to do than to talk out of there asses."

Michelle simply scoffed and shook her head. "You don't say."

"Let's just get to class."

She let herself get guided towards the classroom without another word.
