"Come on, you clearly cheated!"
"How do you expect me to have cheated, Miguel? The dice are literally locked onto the board!"
"Your dyslexic ass probably miscounted for all i know."
"I'm not dyslexic and even if i was, that's not how it works. You don't know what you're talking about."
"Well one thing i do know is that you cheated and you know how i feel about cheaters."
"Oh, so you must not like yourself very much now, huh?"
"...low blow. Like i said... CHEATER!"
"I AM NOT!"
After a long night of medical testing and nurse visits, Miguel couldn't get himself to go back to sleep. In an effort to mend their sibling bond, Michelle purchased a flimsy dollar store Trouble board game from the hospital gift shop so that they could pass the time. Needless to say, it was not going so well.
"ARE TOO! AND I WOULDNT PLAY ANOTHER GAME WITH YOU IF IT WAS THE LAST THING I DID!"
"FINE!"
Michelle stood up from her spot on the other end of the bed, grabbed the board game and charged over to the trash can where she shoved the game angrily into the small opening.
Just then the door of the room crashed open to reveal a worried Carmen and two nurses.
"What the hell is going on in here?" she said while glancing around the room nervously. The nurses made themselves busy by preparing to take Miguel's vitals.
The twins looked at each other and burst out laughing. Fights like those were common in the Diaz household and they couldn't help but relish in the familiar feeling of normalcy.
Even though nothing about their lives would be normal ever again.
After the laughter had died down and the vitals had been taken, the nurses and the Diaz mom stepped out of the room once more.
"I'm really sorry for what i said to you," Michelle said quietly. She took a seat on the opposite side of the bed where she had been sitting before and played with her fingers nervously. "You know...the day before...everything?"
"Don't apologize for that. Michelle, you were upset. It's okay," Miguel replied.
"No. It's not okay. You almost died thinking that i hated you when that's far from the truth."
"I understand what you mean. But i never actually thought that you hated me. I'm guilty of saying things i don't really mean sometimes too...and i love you too."
Michelle's eyes widened as she turned her head to look at him.
"You heard me?"
