~Matthew Price~
I clutched the handle of the seat, looking out the window to try and calm myself. It didn't do much. My mind was a jumbled mess, my heart beating out of my chest. I could only hope and pray that Liza was okay and Benjamin wasn't hurting her in any way.
"Matt, has Ben said anything else?" Ana asked, turning around from the passenger seat to look back at me.
I shook my head, too angered by the single word of my brother's name to reply. I had always known he'd turn out to be trouble. Although my mom had always tried to keep it to herself, it was clear that she thought the same as me, that Ben would become this, a monster, that he'd lose his mind. For what reason? I have no idea.
Perhaps it's jealousy, that both of our parents liked me more, that i always got everything i wanted and more. I don't blame him, i'd be mad too, but to do this...that's on another level. there has to be a different reason.
More buildings were coming into view outside the window. Isaac opened the window for me, letting the cool air hit me. It calmed me somewhat, but it could only remind me if Liza was okay, if she was outside in the cold or if Ben had the decency to keep her inside in a warm place.
"Hey, looks like the police found something." Ana suddenly spoke, causing me to turn my head towards her.
"What happened? Did they find her? Is she okay? Where is liza?" I said, my voice filled with hope, as i leaned forward and tried to take a peak at her phone.
Ana shook her head, showing me her phone screen with the police's update. "They searched Ben's house. Found pictures taken from afar that are of Liza. This one-" She scrolled down, showing a specific picture that made my heart drop. "Is the coffee shop that she goes to all the time. She's talking to Nora there, see?"
I couldn't even reply, just staring at the picture in disbelief. Such an innocent picture of Liza, smiling with the lady. But taken by such a horrible person. Ana pulled her phone away, scrolling down again to show something else.
"So does this mean he's the main suspect? Have they said that?" Susanna asked.
i turned to look at her next to me, nodding slightly, "Yeah, yeah what she said. What does this mean now?"
Ana shrugged, "They said he's a possible suspect."
"Possible?" I almost jumped out of my seat.
"Woah, woah, calm down. It's what they said." She sigh. "They're trying to find anything that could've given his last location, checking cameras."
i sat back into my sat, pinching the bridge of my nose and closing my eyes. The wind outside grew stronger, causing me to shiver.
"Close the damn window, Isaac."
He grumbled something under his breath before closing my window. I didn't know how much longer we had until we arrived. Nevermind that, i don't even know where we were headed. The moment i got that call from Ben, i just knew i was coming to San Jose. I'm completely powerless here, i don't know what to do, but i want to be here if and when Liza is found. No ifs, just when.
i sighed, sinking deeper into my seat, spiraling deeper into my thoughts. I couldn't believe this happened to her. I was still trying to wrap my head around all of this. I should've known from the moment Ben snuck up behind her that one day. She played it off so well, but i could tell she was uncomfortable, she was afraid.
I was taken out of my thoughts when Isaac spoke up, "Hey guys, look at this." He gestured his head out the window, cop cars storming an abandoned building.
I immediately had a bad feeling, and i forced isaac to stop on the side of the road. I opened the car door as fast as i could, running to the scene but being stopped by a police officer.
"Excuse me, sir, this is an ongoing investigation. What are you doing here?" The lady officer said.
i turned to her, debating if i should make a run for it inside the building or be honest with her. Of course the honesty won. "Who's in there? Please, i need to know what's happening here."
She raised a brow at me, "Are you involved in this?"
i shook my head, "Not in- in a bad way, No. My girlfriend went missing, we haven't gotten any update yet. I just- i was worried that maybe she's in there."
Just as the cop was about to respond, Susanna came running at us, "She's in there! I just- i got updated, she's in there!" She was out of breath while trying to get her words out, and i almost didn't understand her.
As soon as her words registered in my head i made a run for it to the building, ignoring the cop and susanna yelling behind me.
No other thoughts were in my head except finding liza. I pushed through the old, creepy doors, cops staring at me and yelling me to get out.
"Hey! Hey you can't be in here!"
I turned frantically, my eyes looking around everywhere, "Where is she?! Where is Liza!?"
"Matt, She's out here, she's in the ambulance" Susanna called out from behind me.
In less than a second i was in front of the ambulance, the sight of liza filling my eyes. I ran to her, her gaze turning towards me.
"Matt!" She called out happily, tears rolling down her face.
"Liza!" I hugged her tightly, holding her close to my chest as she sobbed and got my shirt wet.
She sobbed and sobbed, clutching my shirt as if she never wanted to let go. i tightened my hold on her, whispering reassuring words. I nuzzled my face in to her hair, inhaling her scent.
"i'm so sorry, i'm so sorry, i should've been here." I mumbled into her hair, my eyes closing.
