~Matthew Price~
Panic grew inside me as I stared at the black screen. Different thoughts were rushing inside my head. Oh God, I hope nothing bad happened to her. My heart raced as I could hear something from the other side.
"Liza? What happened?" I asked, trying to get closer to my phone mic so she could hopefully hear me.
I got off my bed, rushing to get to my car- which I'm not sure what I would do then because San Jose is 5 hours away from here, but before I could walk out the house, I heard muffled sounds from the other side of the phone, and then i saw the screen lit up with liza was smiling.
"I'm okay, it's just your brother!" She explained.
My brother? What the hell is my brother doing there? He's literally never home, and even when he is he never leaves the house. That's weird.
"Benjamin?" I asked.
The screen switched to Ben's face. "Well no dur, you have no other brother, idiot." He replied.
I rolled my eyes at his response but he spoke again, "Well, actually that's a lie. We do have a brother he's just 6 feet down in the ground."
Of course. Of course he would joke about our dead brother. Jesus he could never take anything serious. Liza put the camera back to her face and raised an eyebrow.
"I hope that was just a joke." She said.
I quickly replied before Benjamin completely spilled the story on my brother. That's too much of a sensitive topic to just say it out of the blue.
"Anyways, Ben what are you doing there?" I asked.
I could see Liza handing her phone over to Ben so I could talk to him.
"Can your brother not live in San Jose anymore?"
I scoffed, "you're never home. Mom didn't even tell me you were there."
"Because Mom doesn't know I'm here," He furrowed his eyebrows. "You're still talking to mom? Even all the way from LA?"
"No, well, yes but it's just short conversations. But I thought she would tell me." I replied.
"Brother, we both know mom would never ever speak to you about any of that. You know I think it's kind of funny that you think mom actually cares." He replied chuckling to himself.
"You're an asshole. Seriously Ben. Hand the phone back to Liza." I demanded.
He rolled his eyes and passed the phone back to Liza, but I heard his voice behind Liza, "You always forget that mom's the asshole, not me."
"And watch your back little bro, you never know what can happen" I could imagine him smirking as he said that.
I could see behind Liza that Benjamin was walking away. Liza turned her face back to the camera, her expression full of confusion. I swear Benjamin never failed to get me full of anger. We couldn't have one simple conversation without him being a bitch and bringing up my mother or my brother.
