The streets of the city lay quietly under the pale red light of the morning, which lay like a soft veil over the sleeping city. The last glimmers of the night slowly faded, while the first gentle rays of the rising sun bathed the sky in a pale red. A cool wind blew through the empty alleyways, carrying with it the whispers of the sleeping buildings and causing the scattered leaves on the ground to rustle softly. Benjamin led the way, his slender body standing out in the twilight as he strode through the deserted streets with an almost unnatural grace. His gaze was always forward, his posture upright and determined. Every now and then his gaze would linger for a moment on one of the old buildings that stood silent and abandoned by the roadside, as if searching for something that remained invisible to ordinary eyes.

Asmodeus followed Benjamin with quick steps, his gaze always fixed on the slender back of the son of the devil. The red rays of the rising sun cast a shimmer on his dark hair.

The buildings, which were busy and bustling during the day, looked like silent witnesses to the people under the red light. Their façades bore the marks of the world, some of them scarred by time. Some windows were dark, others cast pale light onto the street, which was bathed in the reddish haze of dawn.

Asmodeus sensed an unusual tension in the air, a kind of expectation building up around them. He wondered where they would find the man they were looking for. "How do you know where he is right now?" the angel whispered to him, tugging at his loose, gray T-shirt, which was decorated with a black net underneath. He had also conjured up a pair of casual black jeans so as not to stand out in the city.

"I don't know," Benjamin replied without turning to Asmodeus. "But I know his preferred victims and my butler told me today that our people found one two hours ago." Benjamin turned to him briefly, a thoughtful expression in his eyes. "But higher angels like seraphim and cherubim have a deeper connection to the divine order and can therefore better perceive the energetic signature of guardian angels. It's an ability that has been developed over time and is only given to a few."

"And how do I do that?" Asmodeus asked, confused, because he had taken this as an invitation. "I've never visited a guardian angel on Earth before. It's generally my first time on Earth." And he would have hoped that he could spend a little more time outside of hell.

Watching people go about their everyday tasks and maybe even finding someone he would have liked to find.

Benjamin glanced at him and the corner of his mouth twitched briefly.

"Stay..." he began, looking forward again, "just stay close to me."

When they finally reached the crime scene, an oppressive atmosphere spread over the place. The street was cordoned off and police officers scurried around busily looking for evidence. None of the people seemed to be paying any attention to the two new arrivals, and Benjamin didn't even give them a glance. He walked through the barriers as if they were just holographs and headed straight for the victim lying on the ground.
