FORKS, WASHINGTON: JANUARY 2005

THE FLORESCENT lights of the hospital E.R did little to relieve the headache building behind Astrid's eyes. From her place on the hard E.R bed, she squinted at the nurses moving around her, checking vitals and ensuring she was still breathing. They had done this five times already since she arrived, but Astrid was sure this was the most action this hospital had seen all year. She couldn't fault the nurses, at least they were doing their jobs. The blonde just wished they would do it for someone other than her.

Maybe Tyler, maybe it would get him to shut for a minute and let Astrid think.

"I'm so sorry guys."

Please, somebody shut up Tyler.

"Astrid really, I didn't mean to get you hurt."

Now, shut him up now.

The doors to the ER slammed open with a bang, startlingly everyone in the room. Astrid jerked up to see Chief Swan rushing through, heaving footsteps hitting the linoleum floor. Concern, worry and many other emotions darting across his usually stoic face. He softened at the sight of Bella, sitting up on her E.R bed, relatively unharmed.
