FORKS, WASHINGTON: JANUARY 2005

JASPER continued to not show up to school for the rest of the week. Everyday Astrid would arrive, ready to give the blonde a piece of her mind only to find out that yet again he was a no where to be found. Truly it felt like he was doing the most to avoid her, though Astrid was sure there was most likely another reason to his absence. His siblings didn't appear outwardly concerned by his nonattendance and that of his brother Edward, acting like everything was normal and ignoring the population of Forks High like they usually did. However, Astrid had caught Bella Swan staring at them more than once in the hallway, brown eyes keen and searching which was unusual. It was different from the way other students looked at them, as if Bella was looking for something or someone. Astrid was beginning to wonder if the Swan girl had her own problems with a member of the Cullen family, considering she always seemed to be looking amongst them. It wouldn't surprise her if Bella did, they were a prickly bunch those Cullens.

Thankfully by Friday, the whispers about Astrid's interaction with Jasper in History had begun to die down, probably due to fact he had not returned to fuel them. It was a relief to the blonde girl who had not appreciated her sudden infamy amongst Forks students. Sure, there were still some stares and whispers, but Astrid quickly became old news as prom fever heated up. Gemma had even stopped bothering her about in Chemistry, which surprised the Hill girl since Gemma was a like a dog with a bone when she wanted something. Though Astrid had heard that senior Michael Jones was planning on asking her to prom, so maybe that's what calmed the girl down. Either way, Astrid was going to enjoy her peace whilst it lasted, certain that when Jasper finally came back, the whispers would likely start up again. She knew he couldn't stay away forever, but a small part of her wished he would just so that she wouldn't have to deal with him again. That's what it had been like for the past few days, Astrid's thoughts jumping from wanting to yell at the Hale boy to never wanting to see him again. She couldn't decide really, she didn't know what she would do when she saw Jasper Hale again.
