FORKS, WASHINGTON: MARCH 2005
WHEN ASTRID was a child, her father used to tell her all kinds of stories. Tales of great knights, heroes, villains and adventures to lands unknown. Many he wrote himself, special just for her and just to see her smile. There would princesses named after her and dragons the colour of her hair, tailored just to her by her father who loved dearly. Adventures written out that she could never imagine experiencing all just for her. For a child that spent several of her early years in and out of hospital, she treasured the stories that helped her escape.
Stories, her father used to say, are life lessons translated into something easier to comprehend, there is always an element of truth hidden amongst the pages. Happiness isn't always what it may seem on paper, sometimes you need sacrifice to do what's right. Listen to stories Astrid, listen to what they might teach you.
As a kid, Astrid never really got what he meant by that, too fixated on the words he crafted around to care about what they may mean. She stopped wanting stories after father passed. Because no matter how much her mother tried it wasn't the same. No more heroes, no more adventures, no more life lessons in simple packages. It was just life, and life sucked. Sometimes though, she still heard her father's stories in her dreams, where there was princess named after her atop a golden scaled dragon saving the day.
