FORKS, WASHINGTON: MARCH 2005

LIFE, ASTRID had learnt over the years, was lived with little certainty. It was game of chance, of choices and mistakes, trial and error until finally one day you die, and the final score is tallied up for all to see. Morbid, though it may be, that was the little certainty Astrid had lived her life with up until this point. Now she didn't know what she was certain about, because Jasper Hale was an uncertainty she had never anticipated and he was hers, undeniably and completely hers. Like the moon orbits the earth, and the trees root into the ground, Jasper Hale was tied to her, body, mind and soul.

He was also a vampire, that much Astrid was still certain about. A beautiful, charming, immortal vampire who wanted her. Seven billion people in the world and Jasper Hale chose her. It was so unimaginable it was laughable.

Her phone buzzed beneath her palm, lighting up with a new text.

I'm picking you up in 5 minutes, see you soon –Jasper
