After taking Donghyuck to the restaurant and noticing how well the boy ate, Mark thought about doing something like this again. Because the quality of the human's blood won't possibly change just because of one good meal.
The next day, Mark ordered a few sandwiches from a nice place and, biting the bag, used the human's window to deliver them right to him. Donghyuck was very surprised to see the vampire coming there for something else than blood. Especially when usually he was the one feeding the guest, not the other way around.
"I'm feeding you this time," the vampire said. "Take a break."
"T-thanks."
Mark didn't even transform into his usual form as he had no intention of staying there. He asked Donghyuck to eat and then left. He didn't fly that far, though. Mark landed in a tree and actually left only when he made sure that Donghyuck had dinner which happened in a minute or two.
The following day, which wasn't even a day Mark would normally see Donghyuck, the vampire went to him on foot and brought pomegranate juice. All because he remembered how once Taeyong told him that such juice helped with blood. Donghyuck's mood brightened as he saw Mark but he felt confused as he noticed a bottle with dark liquid.
"It's for your health," Mark said, giving it to Donghyuck and then walking away.
Before he could fully leave, Donghyuck called for him, asking him to wait.
"Aren't you hungry?"
"I'm fine," Mark replied discreetly as he was in the middle of the hall.
Before coming to him, he fed on another human. Donghyuck nodded, although his emotions were like a mirror of his mind—Mark could tell how he felt just by simply looking at him! He was sad.
Mark continued taking care of Donghyuck and his blood by bringing tomato and beet juice too. His visits turned daily, exciting Donghyuck but at the same time saddening him as Mark didn't stay for too long. The vampire, however, did it on purpose as he noticed a change in Donghyuck's behavior too well. It seemed like the human thought they were dating or something. Mark feared that he'd become more straightforward sooner or later. And the vampire wasn't ready for any topic related to romance.
As he didn't want to talk about it, he started thinking of showing subtle signs of having no interest in the human as a partner—before things could turn wrong. Mark called him a friend but withdrew from familiarity. He kept mentioning the human their different races and hoped Donghyuck would catch that they couldn't be together. He put that into braver action after a few more days of feeding Donghyuck and finally coming to feed on him. He had to.
"Do you feel any better?" he asked as he dropped to the floor and abandoned his bat form.
"I'm feeling great," Donghyuck replied with a confident smile. He was no longer surprised by Mark's transformations. Did that mean he was getting used to it?
"That's great," the vampire also smiled but avoided looking into the human's eyes.
Mark made his way toward Donghyuck, who, as usual, sat on his bed. The vampire joined him and took a secret sniff to feel the boy's blood under all that skin. He did feel the delicious scent but he also felt the smell of shower gel. As if it wasn't already obvious that the human showered, Mark glanced at Donghyuck's hair, noticing that some strands of his hair were still wet.
"Hyung," Donghyuck spoke, snapping Mark back to reality. "I appreciate your care. Like, who could've thought that a vampire could be so caring," he laughed.
"Mhm," Mark nodded, sensing that this subject might turn dangerous.
Maybe that's why he touched the human's arm as if signaling that he was hungry and had no intention of long talks. Donghyuck, however, seemed to be too agitated to move on from whatever he talked about.
