may 8, 2025Jack stood at the bottom of the staircase, scrolling idly through his phone as he waited for Juniper. The sound of her heels clicking against the wooden stairs pulled his attention, and he looked up.
For a moment, Jack forgot how to breathe.
Juniper descended the staircase, her sheer blue babydoll dress catching the light, the tiny black bow on the chest and frilled hem swaying softly with each step. The denim mini skirt peeked out beneath the sheer fabric, and her knee-high black boots completed the look. A black and blue race jacket draped over her shoulders.
Jack's jaw literally dropped.
"You..." he started, his voice faltering. He blinked as if to make sure she was real, his eyes wide and full of adoration. "You look..."
Juniper paused on the last step, biting her lip nervously under his gaze. "Is it too much?" she asked, suddenly second-guessing herself. "I—I can change if it's—"
"No!" Jack blurted, snapping out of his daze and stepping forward. "No, June, it's perfect. You're perfect. I just—" He shook his head, a soft laugh escaping him. "You're stunning. Absolutely stunning."
His words eased her nerves, and she gave him a shy smile. "You really think so?"
"I know so," he said, his voice steady now. His gaze softened as he took her in again. "And... I recognise this outfit."
Juniper's heart skipped a beat. "You do?"
"How could I not?" Jack said, a hint of a smile tugging at his lips. "This is what you wore the day we first met. I remember every detail."
Juniper flushed, the memory warming her cheeks. "Well," she teased, smoothing out the hem of her dress, "I thought it might be a good choice for tonight."
"It's more than good," Jack murmured, his eyes never leaving hers. "It's... wow."
His awe made her giggle, and he grinned, offering his hand. "Ready?"
She nodded, taking his hand as he led her out to his car. Jack opened the passenger door for her with a little bow, earning another laugh from Juniper before she slid into the seat. He closed the door carefully and jogged around to the driver's side.
As they drove, Juniper tried to piece together where they might be going. Jack hummed along to the playlist softly playing through the car speakers, his hand drumming lightly against the steering wheel, the other resting on Juniper's thigh, her hands toying with the rings on his fingers.
About ten minutes in, Juniper's eyes widened in recognition.
"Wait a second," she said, sitting up straighter. The cobblestone streets, the ivy-covered carriage houses, the charm of it all—she knew this place. "Jack... is this...?"
Jack smiled, his eyes glancing at her briefly before returning to the road. "You tell me."
She gasped softly as they turned into the quiet street. "Washington Mews."
Jack parked the car and turned to her, his expression soft and full of meaning. "This was where we went the first time we ever hung out. Just us."
