Marinette's Grandpa's POV:

He watched as his granddaughter ran off. He was furious. How dare she disrespect him and run off?  He sighed in dismay.  He never cared for that Luka Cuffaine fellow. It would do Marinette good to see that he was no match for her. Well, soon she would see all along he knew what was best for her.

He got the rest of the invitations ready and sent them out. There that should do it he thought.

He smiled at the thought of Marinette being properly matched with someone more suitable to her status in life.  He prepared the room for the upcoming get-together and then sealed it off. Next, he needed to purchase some things for the bride and the groom-to-be. He got online and ordered flowers, rings, a dress, bridal shoes, a veil, and more to be delivered two days before the big day.

He hoped that, in due time, she would come to see things his way. If not, then too bad; she was in his charge, so she would have to marry the man he chose for her. He figured the man worthy of her would be happy to help her. He had a few things in mind to ensure he was the one meant to share tea with her and seal his fate as Marinette's groom.  The unworthy candidates would be eliminated. None would die, but they would wish it because of the pain.

      Time skip!

      Marinette's Grandfather's POV:

The day appointed was here at long last. Marinette's Grandfather had finished getting everything ready. All was ready for the guests to arrive except, for one thing, the bride. He entered her room. She was wide awake, and yelled at his entrance, "Grandfather, have you never heard of knocking? It is improper to enter a lady's room unannounced."  "Well, that is true, Marinette, but you need to get up and prepare for the ceremony," He said as if it were every day she had longed for this moment.   Marinette obeyed. She got up and waited for him to exit the room.

   Marinette's POV:

When the door shut behind him she sighed. She slipped on the dreaded dress, put on the shoes, and did her hair. She added the jewelry and flowers. Now, she was all set. She wept for the loss of the one she loved. She wept for the cruelness of it all. She was to marry a stranger and at seventeen! She might as well get the dreadful thing over with. The sooner it was over the sooner she could express her dismay at the one she would be stuck with for life.

As part of the tradition the one who was picked would drink the tea. If he refused, he would be forced to drink it or die. After they took turns drinking the tea they were engaged which was to be followed by a short wedding.

Marinette left the room unsure what to expect. She looked around her and gasped when she saw those in attendance. Was this a cruel twist of fate?

She saw Kagami, Zoe, Chole, Nathaniel, Luka, Marc, Alix, Kim, Sabrina, and many others she knew. She also noticed some she never met before.  Why had he invited Luka? The boy who broke her heart? Was it to make her break down more before she began her new life with whoever her grandfather deemed worthy of her? She stopped looking at them and took her seat in the chair. She closed her eyes.

        The candidate's POV:

Each candidate stepped forward as her grandfather told them to.  A button was pressed and two were dropped into the dungeon below. The rest would have to compete to prove their worth.  Kim, Adrien, Nathaniel, and a few others, Max, Troy, Harold, and Benjamin stood at attention. They listened closely to the instructions.

Adrien felt sorry for the girl who sat in the chair on the platform he could sense she was terrified. Why did this make him want to protect her for all it was worth?

The group did the fencing event and within the first few minutes, Max, Kim, and Harold were eliminated joining the others in the dungeon. Troy, Benjamin, Adrien, and Nathaniel stood there unsure what else awaited them.   They did the next few things with no one being eliminated. The last event came, and all failed it but two. Those who remained were Adrien and Troy.  The boys were each given a glass. They were not told what it contained. Adrien drank from his. Troy hesiasted, but drank once Adrien assured him it was safe.
