Description:

Warning:

Kleenex, handkerchief, and hugs may be necessary to read this part and the rest of this story as it contains some intense sadness and other hard feelings.

  Nathalie's POV:

I held onto Adrien feeling sad and angry that he should be robbed of his mother. He is only a teenager and should not have to deal with such grief. Yet, here I am trying to comfort him as if he were the only one suffering. I know that is not true, I just lost my best friend and Gabriel lost his wife, his companion, and the love of his life.

I saw Gabriel slowly approach the bed as I hugged his son. I  saw the look in his eyes. It was filled with shock, denial, and more. "She can't be...She mustn't...she just can't..." Gabriel muttered.  I patted a spot next to me on the chair where I sat. "Come sit with us," I said. "I think I have more important things to tend to," He said. His voice sounded more harsh than he intended. "Sir, I object, You need not worry about such matters, I will take care of everything. Emily asked me too, and I intend to see to it that her wishes are met."  "Is that a fact? Well, then, Miss Sancouer, thank you," He said shaking my hand as if we were settling on some business deal instead of discussing his wife's funeral arrangements.

"Gabriel, she was concerned for you."  "She?" He asked glancing in the direction of the lifeless body of his wife that lay still with a cover pulled over it. "Emily asked me to take care of you and the boy," I answered. "Hmm, yes, Adrien could use the friendship, but I have no intentions of making you my wife," He bluttered. I gasped.

"Sir, I meant no such thing. I only meant that I was to look after you to ensure you bring no harm to yourself," I explained. My face felt flushed from the very idea that I should try to seduce him.

Adrien looked from his father to me seeing the tension in the room and scowled. "Father, Nathalie has been nothing, but kind to us, the least you could do is return the favour," Adrien remarked. He wiped the tears from his eyes as he spoke.

"You have no idea what I have been through; none of you do or ever will understand. Oh, and another thing, From here on out, you are in Nathalie's care, Adrien.  As for me, I need no nursemaid, I will do well to take care of myself," He spat out. Then, Gabriel walked off as if nothing else mattered in the world.

Nothing at all. Not even his son. I sighed as Adrien whimpered.

"Adrien, it is not your fault. He didn't mean it. I am sure your father cares for you deeply, "I tried my best to reassure him. Little did I know that the path to Gabriel's downfall had only begun.

         I hugged him.

I handed him the poem his mother had written for him before her death. I saw him read it slowly with a weak smile appearing as he finished it. It was almost as if he felt his mother's presence with him. I saw him tuck the poem in his back jeans pocket.

"Adrien, Nathalie, Mr. Agreste," I came as soon as I heard, I..." the girl paused as she spoke when it dawned on her that Gabriel had left the room.  She frowned. She walked over to us and wrapped her arms around us both.

    "Thanks, Chole," Adrien whispered.

Another person entered the room without a word, she came slowly to us. She looked frightened somehow.  As if she were worried she would be in trouble for being here. She hugged Chole, then, me, and finally Adrien.

     "Thanks, Kagami," Adrien whispered.

"Sure, I am sorry about your mother," Both girls spoke at once.

I sighed. I felt sorry for Adrien, his father wasn't supportive of him in their shared loss, but at least he still had his friends, Chole and Kagami.
