Ms. Patterson folded her arms across her chest and looked between the two of us with a small scowl on her face. She started to tap her finger on her arm while she did so, and my heart started to pound hard and fast in my chest with it leaping into my throat every so often.

Oh, Goddess no...

"Now, what am I supposed to do with the two of you?" Ms. Patterson asked while she looked between the two of us before she solely looked at me. "Are we going to have to talk to your parents?" She raised an eyebrow in question.

We shook our heads in unison while we stared at her with wide eyes filled with nervousness and fear. We didn't say a word while we looked at her, silently praying that she wouldn't do that, especially since we didn't do anything besides Sam doing some payback on my tormentor for me.

Ms. Patterson bit back a tired sigh and shook her head before she looked at Sam. She rubbed the bridge of her nose and pursed her lips in annoyance before she cleared her throat and stood taller.

"Miss Carter, is that going to happen again? Are you going to be messing with someone else, even though you are not supposed to do that?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and Sam instantly shook her head.

"No, Ma'am," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She cleared her throat and shifted on her feet before she looked between the two of us and then looked at her with a wide innocent look on her face, and tears filled her eyes. "It's not going to happen again."

Ms. Patterson scowled and narrowed her eyes while she stared at us. She didn't say a word, and we grew increasingly uncomfortable while we moved closer together, waiting for her to say or do something.

Sam hesitated before she grabbed my pinkie with hers while she continued to look at Ms. Patterson, and I couldn't help but hesitate before I grabbed her hand fully because I was happy that she was here and beside me.

Even if the voice was not...

Finally, Ms. Patterson sighed and shook her head, relenting, and her shoulders sagged in defeat. "Now, do you have an extra change of pants, Mr. Prince?" she asked and looked at me, raising an eyebrow in question. "Or are we going to have to call your mother?"

I hesitated and shook my head, and my cheeks turned red because I didn't want her to call my parents, but I didn't have an extra pair of pants with me.

I didn't know I needed them... "N-"

"I do," Sam said, interrupting me, and I looked at her. She looked at me and offered me a small, hesitant smile before she grew serious and looked at Ms. Patterson. "L- Mrs. Prince made sure to pack some extra clothes for him in my bag as a just in case."

Your mom trusts her more than you, which is why she did not give the clothes to you, the stupid voice said, and I grabbed her hand tighter but not hard enough to hurt her. She doesn't care about you at all.

Mrs. Patterson tucked her head closer to her chest and bit back a small smile, raising an eyebrow in question. "And why did she not give the pants to Mr. Prince, Miss Carter?" she asked while she looked between the two of us.

Sam shrugged and bit back a hesitant smile while she tucked her head closer to her chest. She squeezed my hand reassuringly and moved closer to me, brushing her shoulder against mine. "Because Tommy was already out the door before she could give it to him," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

She's lying. That is not the truth.

I bit my tongue and stared at my teacher with wide eyes. I didn't say a word but turned to look at Sam, hoping that what she said was true or at least part of the truth because I didn't want the voice to be right.

Call her out and then you will see that I was not lying.

I can't... I said, my voice barely above a whisper, and I grabbed my best friend's hand tighter, trying but failing to keep it from shaking. I can't call her out because I want it to be true.

But you know that it isn't...

Ms. Patterson looked between the two of us, set her jaw, and pressed her lips into a thin line while she focused her gaze on Sam. "Is it in your cubby, Ms. Carter?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question.

"Yes, Ma'am," she said and nodded in confirmation. She hesitated and looked down, licking her lips before she cleared her throat and shifted on her feet. "It is in my cubby and in my bag."

"Then go ahead and go to the classroom and get them. Next time, you will be in trouble if you do this to him again, and we will call your parents. Is that understood?" She scowled and narrowed her eyes while she stared at us.

"Yes, Ma'am," we chorused and nodded with me breathing a small sigh of relief, and I slowly started to release my best friend's hand, praying that she would keep it in my hand. "Thank you, Ma'am."

"Hmph." She nodded. "Go see Miss Wright and have her lead you both to the classroom, bathroom, and then out for recess after you both are done," she said and gestured to one of our other teachers, who was watching the whole thing with her arms folded across her chest. "We will be done with lunch and will be outside as soon as you are done."

"Yes, Ms. Patterson," we said in unison and nodded in confirmation. We walked together to go see Miss Wright so that I could get a new change of pants for me, and Sam started to pull her hand out of mine, and my heart almost stopped.

I grabbed her hand tighter, and she stopped and stared at me with wide eyes filled with unshed tears. "No," I whispered and grabbed her hand tighter so that she couldn't take my hand from hers. "Don't take your hand out of mine, Sam. Please."

I need you...

"Please, keep holding my hand, Sam," I said, and my voice was still barely above a whisper while I shook my head and pressed my lips into a thin line. "Do not pull away from me."

Let her pull away from her, young Alpha, the annoying voice said with a sneer in its voice. You don't need her. You will never need her.

I do... I replied weakly while my best friend looked at me with a set jaw and narrowed eyes, studying me with something in her eyes that I didn't know and wasn't sure if I liked. I need her.

You don't, Young Alpha, and one day, you will see that you do not need her and that she is the one causing all of this pain and suffering that you are feeling.

The voice paused, and I set my jaw and narrowed my eyes just a tad, praying that it was finished, even though it wasn't and was only getting warmed up so that it could continue to tear me down.

Sam kept her gaze on me and kept her hand in mine. She didn't say a word while she looked at me before she turned her attention back to the way that we were going, not trying to take her hand out of mine.

See? the stupid voice asked with a sneer in its voice. She doesn't need you. She is playing with you and your emotions in a way you should be playing with her.

The voice paused again and let what it said sink in, waiting for me to agree with it. The pack does not need her and neither should you. When you decide to agree, then your life will be a lot easier for you. I promise.

But why did that promise sound so false..?
