The night turned into day, and day turned into night. The seasons changed too until there was snow on the ground.

School was out for winter break, but that didn't stop people from picking on me. The stupid voice wouldn't leave me alone, but I got good at ignoring it... sometimes.

There were moments where I actually believed it, but then Sam would do something good, and I could ignore it again. However, it was getting harder and harder for me to do it, and I was scared that I would hurt my best friend.

Cold hands touched my face, waking me from my slumber and making me frown. There were a giggle and some weight on me, and I could tell that it was Sam.

"St-op," I groaned, pulling the covers over my face. I squished my eyes tighter together, wanting to go back to sleep. I didn't want to get up and deal with today. "Your hands are cold."

"I know," she said. She bounced on me, and I groaned. "Get up," she whined and bounced on me some more. "I am bored, but your mama doesn't want me to play outside by myself."

I grumbled and moved to the side, pushing her onto the bed beside me. I placed my arm around her and pulled her close to me.

She is as cold as ice. Push her off the bed, the stupid voice said. She doesn't care about you.

No, I hissed back, stubbornly. She isn't cold. She cares about me.

She is just using you to get to your position. Just you wait.

"Tom-my," Sam complained, wriggling her body around in my tight grasp. She whined in pain and moved around some more. "Stop. You are hurting me."

"Sorry," I said, relaxing my grip. I moved the blankets off of my face and stared at those big eyes hiding behind glasses.

Sam smiled and blinked, and I had a feeling that she wasn't upset with me holding her too tight. "Morning," she said. "It snowed again."

I groaned and closed my eyes. I was tired of the snow. I wanted to go to our secret spot, but Daddy and Mommy wouldn't let us go because of the snow.

"We can build a fort inside and hide," Sam said, her voice barely above a whisper. She wanted to go too, but we both knew that it would be too hard for her to go to the lake.

"Steal some cookies and hot cocoa?" I asked, and she nodded excitedly.

"And, ice cream," she said. She sat up and bounced on the bed, smiling. Her excitement was contagious, and I couldn't help but smile back.

"It's too cold for ice cream," I pointed out, and she shook her head, no.

"No, it's never too cold for ice cream." She folded her arms across her chest and pouted. "Please?" she asked and cocked her head while she stared at me with big doe eyes.

I huffed teasingly and nodded. "Fine," I said, sitting up, and she grinned. "You go get dressed in pjs. I don't know why you got out of your clothes."

"Because I wanted to play out in the snow before anyone else woke up," she said. She got off of the bed and walked to the edge of the bed where I had been sitting. "Am I making the fort in the closet?" she asked, cocking her head.

"Who said that you were going to make the fort?" I asked, turning to look at her. I watched as she stood on her tippy toes to actually see me.

"Because I don't want to go down there, again." Her eyes were wide with fear, and I could tell that she didn't want to see anyone who had woken up.

She is a scaredy cat. She shouldn't be your friend. You deserve better.

I shook my head and sighed, trying to push that voice away. "Ok, I will go get the food. Make the fort in the closet and get dressed back into some pjs."
