Sam collected my bowl when I was finished with my food and stood with both bowls in her hand. "Do you want to come out with me?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Or are you going to continue to mope in the bedroom?"

"I am going to stay in the bedroom and mope," I said and tried to keep my mouth shut with the next thought that I wanted to say but couldn't because it felt like the voice was urging me to say what was on my mind. "I don't want to be seen with you right now because you stink."

Sam blinked and blinked again before she pressed her lips into a thin line while a look of hurt flashed through her eyes. She didn't say a word and shrugged as if she didn't care that I told her that she stunk and that I would be staying away from her while I continued to mope in the bedroom.

"You need a bath, Sam," I said, not knowing why I said it but saying it anyway without thinking. "Why do you stink so bad?"

She shrugged and continued not to say a word before she started to make her way to the door as if my words didn't hurt her like I wanted them to.

"Are you going to come back after you put the bowls up?" I asked, trying but failing to hide the desperation in my voice.

Please say yes...

No, the stupid voice said as soon as I prayed that she would say yes that she would be back. You want her to say no, not yes.

Sam paused on her way to the door and looked at me with wide brown eyes that were hidden behind glasses. "Do you want me to?" she asked, not giving me a straight answer.

Yes.

"No," I blurted out instead with a shake of my head, and Sam frowned. "I do not want you to come back to pity me."

"What if I don't pity you when I come back?" she asked and cocked her head to the side while she studied me. "Will you let me come back then?"

"No," I said and shook my head. My heart pounded hard and fast in my chest, and it took all of my self-control not to blurt out what the voice wanted me to say.

But I was not able to listen to the voice that told me to stay silent...

"I do not want you back in my room then either. Go take a bath, and I will think about letting you come back into my bedroom to be with me."

"You're the one that stinks, not me, Tommy," Sam said, and tears pricked the corner of her eyes, making me feel happy that I had her crying. "Your behavior stinks the worst."

"It's your fault," I said without thinking, letting the stupid voice continue to take over, even though all I wanted to do was keep my mouth shut. "You are the reason why my behavior stinks because you won't leave me alone when all I want you to do is leave me alone."

"Then I will leave you alone so that your behavior can improve for others around you and not me."

She wiped her eyes angrily to stop the tears from falling before she turned toward the door and started to walk that way without letting me say another word.

I watched after her with wide eyes, not liking the fact that she was leaving but not able to stop her because my voice seemed to leave me and left me feeling speechless.

Sam turned around when she reached the door and looked at me with tears in the corner of her eyes and streaming down her face. "Can you open the door for me, please?" she asked, her voice levelled and firm. "Or do I smell so bad that you don't want to be near me?"

"Figure it out," I said before I could think of something else to say or do what she asked of me. "You got in here with no help, so you can leave with no help."

Sam rolled her eyes and scowled before she turned back to the door. She set the bowls down before she stood on her tippy toes and reached for the door handle when there was a knock on the door.

She picked up the bowls and moved out of the way from the door before she said, "come in," not giving me a chance to say anything, and the door to my room opened to reveal my dad standing there.

My dad looked between the two of us and frowned, furrowing his brows. "Sam," he said when he saw that she was crying. "What is it? What's wrong?"

Sam wiped her eyes and blinked back tears that wanted to fall. "Nothing," she said and shook her head. "I am just trying to leave the room, and Tommy is being mean to me."

"Is he now?" my dad asked, and she nodded. He looked at me, and I looked down to not meet his gaze because I hated how I was disappointing him by being mean to Sam when I had no choice. He looked at her and raised an eyebrow in question. "How is he being mean to you, Sam?"

"He called me stinky and told me that I had to open the door by myself, even though I asked him for help."

"Did he now?" my dad asked, and she nodded in confirmation. "And are you stinky?" he asked, and she shrugged and grimaced, pressing her lips into a thin line. "Do you want a bath?"

"Please," she said and wiped her eyes to make sure that there were no more tears in her eyes. "I would like a bath to make sure that I am not stinky."

"Then we will go ahead and give you a bath so that you can go ahead and be clean. Now, go ahead and put up the bowls so that I can go ahead and talk to Tommy about his behavior. Either your aunt or I will be there in a bit to give you a bath, ok?"

"Yes, Alpha," Sam said and bowed her head in respect, submitting to him. "Thank you, Alpha."

"Uncle, Sam," my dad said with an exasperated sigh. He rubbed the bridge of his nose as if a headache appeared out of nowhere. "I am your uncle more than I am your Alpha. I wish you would call me uncle again and not Alpha. Why did you stop?"

Sam didn't say a word and shrugged. She excused herself from the room and rushed to put the bowls up so that she could get a bath and not stink any longer.

Even though she didn't stink, to begin with...

Oh, Goddess, please let her forgive me for calling her stinky. She didn't stink at all and smelled amazing.

Please...
