"You only live once, Thomas."
Thomas glared up from his textbook. "I need to study, George. You know that."
"Oh, but what's the fun in studying? Me and my mates are going out to the city this afternoon. You should join us." Davies said, closing the textbook and putting it back on the shelf.
"No. I need this scholorship." The brunette said, his tone harsher than intended.
Davies rolled his eyes. "Have fun with your boring know-it-all life." He called out, leaving the classroom.***
Thomas despised Davies. Sure, they had gone to school together and used to be friends, but that didn't make up for how Davies acted towards others or how boisterous he was.
"Thomas. Tommy. Parliment member mini." Davies said, tapping on his shoulder.
"What now, Davies?" Thomas groaned.
Davies cleared his throat as if preparing to give a speech.
"Here we go." Lutenient lewis muttered.
"Thomas, it appears that you are still living a boring know-it-all life, just as you had been living in school," he began, waving his hands around regally. "I propose that we should meet up, like a rendezvous. Put some excitement in that boring life of yours. It would be nice to be... freinds again."
Thomas opened hos mouth to say no, but closed it again. Would this be worth it?
"Fine. With exceptions." Thomas said bergrudgingly.
Davies practically heel clicked with excitement. "Yay! Great! Uh, i mean, yeah whatever i could care less." The blonde said, suddendly switching to feinged nonchalance. Thomas rolled his eyes.
"See you at seven?" Davies inquired, his tone hopeful.
"Sure." The brunette replied.
Davies smiled and patted thomas on the head before skipping away gleefully.
"He's so stupid." Thomas muttered. He sat back down and pulled out a book he hadn't read in a bit: "Great expectations" by Charles Dickens.***
"And get this: he said yes! And even better? It wasn't annoyance in his eyes, it was pity!" Davies swung in his chair, recounting everything to Murphy (It was like talking to a brick wall).
"Hm." The red head said, dipping a biscuit into his tea.
"And he's just so... kind. Not to me, exactly, but to others." Davies went on, ignoring Murphy's annoyed tone.
"Oh! It's seven o'clock! Bye!" Davies said, getting up and speeding away.
Murphy breathed a sigh of relief and kept drinking his tea.***
Thomas tapped his foot impatiently. Davies was already fifteen minutes late.
"Come on, where is this man?" He muttered.
"Hi, Tommy! Sorry i'm late. I needed to write a letter to my father- i need to write to my parents weekly or else they'll be worried sick." Davies said, running up to him.
Thomas rolled his eyes. "Alright, let's go to this forest you were talking about." He said, grabbing Davies by the sleeve and leading him away. They walked in scilence for a bit and Thomas released Davies's sleeve.
"So, Davies. Why do you go by your ladt name?" Thomas asked.
"I just think George is too basic. There are too many of them." Davies replied, moving a branch out of the way.
"I think george is a nice name." The brunette said.
"Well, i don't." The blonde said.
Thomas reached out and tenatively grabbed Davies's hand. Davies blushed, but kept his eyes on the trail.
"Look! Fireflies!" Davies said.
"My favorite bug." Thomas said, abselutely awestruck.
Davies ran foraward and tried to catch some in his hands. Thomas hesitated.
You only live once, thomas.
The brunette snapped out of it and walked forward, letting one land on his palm.
"Did you know that fireflies are in the same order as beetles?" Thomas inquired, watching the little bug wiggle around. "Or that their scientific name is Lampyridae?"
"You're a bigger nerd than bill." Davies said, letting the fireflies go and watching them fly away.
"He's not a nerd! He just likes the subject, you know."
"I'm just teasing, darling."
The brunette blushed at the term of endearment. He cleared his throat.
"You're more interesting than you let on." Thomas remarked, smiling.
"And you look smashing in this lighting, dear," Davies said. Thomas blinked, his eyes widening. "Sorry! Did i come off too strong?" The blonde said.
"No, that was... great." Thomas said. He held Davies's hand again, stepping closer.
Thomas's heart started beating a little bit faster.
"So, can i...?" Davies let go of Thomas's hand to gently grab his face, his thumb tracing a circle on his cheek.
"Took you long enough!" Thomas joked, leaning in.
Davies smiled, rolled his eyes, and gave Thomas a quick kiss.
"There. How's that for taking too long?" Davies said smugly, looking overly proud of himself.
"It was nice, dear," Thomas checked his watch. "But we must head back."***
Davies walked back, staring at Thomas with an adoring expression. Thomas looked vack at him, smiling like an idiot.
"Someone's happy." Bill said, sipping a cup of water. Davies rolled his eyes and waved goodbye to Thomas before walking in.
"He's just happy we... saw some fireflies. Yeah." Thomas said, sweating nervously. Bill nodded.
Lutenient lewis packed more tobbacco into his pipe. "Get a good rest, now. Tommorow is another day of drills."
"I will." Thomas said.
