A deserved future

Hello dear readers, this episode and every episode after takes place 3 years after the last chapter. We have time skipped into the future where Trucy, Apollo and the rest of the Apollo Justice group all exist, I know this isn't accurate to the real Ace Attorney storyline but I wanted to speed things up a bit. The story won't really focus on them since this is NaruMitsu but this was just for your information. Hopefully, this time skip isn't too drastic. Enjoy this chapter and as always Happy Reading!!! Oh right forgot to say, I will not be writing about the cases or quiet a few of the big story points that happen in Apollo Justice so no spoilers ahead.

Phoenix grabbed the toast from off his plate and began to run out the door, he quickly stopped in front of the door and looked at a mirror hung very unstably on the wall. Phoenix adjusted his tie whilst concentrating on not dropping the piece of toast he had clenched in his mouth. He took a bite and called out to Trucy who was sitting with Pearl discussing something.

"Ok I'm leaving now so behave yourselves!"

"Yeah yeah we will." Pearl answered back with a sassy tone whilst Trucy sat beside her, not even lifting her head. 

Phoenix ran out the door and rushed to his office, he had an important case and had completely forgotten to check up on the file, he had been so busy lately that his cases were piling up. Whilst running after the bus Phoenix thought about Miles, he was on a very important investigation in Europe and was supposed to return next week, Phoenix couldn't help but miss him though. He still hadn't mentioned too much to Trucy or Apollo, all they knew was the relationship between him and Miles, in fact only Franziska, Pearl and Maya knew everything.

Phoenix arrived at his office and sat down exhausted, the morning had been hectic, right now it was the holidays which meant that neither of the girls had school, Phoenix had mostly entrusted their care with Maya and Franziska who seemed to be doing well for themselves. 

Whilst sat at his desk Phoenix played around with the ring on his finger, he had never taken it off ever since Miles gave it to him. 3 years ago. Miles had vowed to do the same, it was their way of connection when they were apart. Phoenix was distracted he couldn't bring himself to write up the latest report for his case, it was only a job which would take about an hour, but with everything going on in his life Phoenix felt too tired.

Unexpectedly, Phoenix heard a knock on his door, he assumed it was Maya probably asking for another favour. He shouted at the door.

"Maya I am not buying you more rubber bands. I've already spent too much money."

He sighed and put his head in his hands, the knocking at the door persisted, out of annoyance Phoenix stood up and swung the door open. His expressions quickly turned into embarrassment and flustering. Phoenix quickly regained his composure and cleared his throat. Once he finally came to his senses a rush of excitement and confusion replaced his embarrassment.

"Hello?"

A very nervous Miles stood at the door, his brow was furrowed in confusion and even a little out of fear. He clutched the bouquet of flowers he had in his hands and drew them closer to his chest. 

To break the awkwardness Phoenix hugged Miles, slightly crushing the flowers in the process but he didn't care. Miles stiffened like a board whilst Phoenix lifted him into the air whilst maintaining his hug.

"I thought you weren't going to be back for another week."

Miles gave Phoenix's head a small pat whilst Phoenix placed him down again.

"I finished the investigation early, instead of wasting a whole week in a hotel I decided to come back early. I have a better life waiting for me here."

Phoenix let out a little aw and both of them sat down in the sofa in Phoenix's office.

"I see the pile of papers on your desk, Phoenix, how have you been managing without me?"

Miles asked out of compassion, he had left Phoenix for 3 weeks for his case and it was clearly enough time for Phoenix's life to turn into a mess.

"Without you its just been a little, hectic. To say the least. There's just been a lot going on, it's been tiring."

Miles pushed his glasses up and took one of the files on Phoenix's desk, Phoenix placed his head on Miles's shoulder and let out a tired sigh. Miles quickly skimmed through the file.

"These reports seem quick to write up, want me to help you."

"I would be so grateful."

Miles and Phoenix spent the afternoon writing up the reports for Phoenix's cases, the afternoon progressed in silence, a machine like system formed between them. Peaceful silence, handing each other a file, spending about an hour writing it up and then passing each other a new one.

Once it was around 6 Phoenix decided to call it a day and head home, Miles had brought his car so they both got in and drove back.

Phoenix told Miles to hide out of sight of the door way, slowly he opened the door and Trucy greeted him.

"Hey dad how was work? You know me and Pearl have something to show you."

"Oh really?"

Right when Trucy was going to continue her sentence Miles walked in, everyone's attention in the room diverted to him as he walked through the door.

"Uncle Miles your back this early?"

Trucy ran up and hugged him out of excitement. Pearl and Maya also walked up to him but with a more skeptical look on their faces.

"Hey girls I brought you all presents from shops during my trip."

Upon hearing that Pearl and Maya immediately softened their expressions, they pulled Phoenix and made Trucy push Miles towards him, forcing them to hug. Phoenix smiled and luaghed it off, he was used to this kind of behaviour.

"Right everyone lets sit down and eat, by the way Trucy what were you going to say?"

"It's not important anymore."

Phoenix shrugged it off and went to set up the dinner table. Everyone together had a nice meal, laughing and celebrating the return of Miles.
