It's noon by the time we make it a far distance out of the city. We eat the last of our food that we hunted in the Number Kingdom so that we don't fall from exhaustion. Well, I suppose that we have to hunt new things now. It was time to try some of the food here anyways.
We continue on our way when we finish eating. Looking around, the landscape is extremely boring. The only thing here is rock and lava. I mean, plant life wouldn't exactly be able to survive here, but isn't there some kind of other thing here that could provide with a more interesting landscape? Oh, well. As we walk, I find that some of the rock is too soft to support our weight, which Crimson points out before we even step on it. He has his katana out and ready, and for him to have his katana out must mean that something far too dangerous lurks around here. From what Blackie once told me, he only uses it when there's a powerful foe around.
"Be careful there," Crimson says, pointing with his katana to a spot on the ground. "A small volcano lies dormant there. If you step on it, it could come alive with a powerful explosion."
"How many things here can kill us?" Blackie asks as he and I step around the small, inactive volcano. "Almost everything you've pointed out here is deadly for one reason or another."
"This is a place with high volcanic activity. The animals have been well adapted to protect their safe lands, and the land itself has been affected by the giant volcano. The animals have a hard time finding safe homes, to it only makes sense that they protect the safe place with a strong viciousness. The crust itself is weak from the magma, but the magma normally oozes out of the giant volcano. Still, some parts are too weak to walk on."
"Really, now?" I chime in. "This place is very interesting."
"Very." Crimson nods.
We keep walking along in silence. Crimson leads us across lava rivers and directs us around dangers. Along the way, we hunt for meat to eat. We dare not gather anything that resembles plants; there is a high chance that the fumes from the volcano have made the plants toxic to us. Only the meat seems to be safe.
We find another set of homes in the suburbs of a new city. We go in to find a place to rest if there is one.
"We should enter the city and find an inn to stay in," Crimson sighs. "Honestly, these cities are much too far apart."
By the time we enter the urban area, night has fallen. To escape the night dangers, we enter the first inn we see that isn't too expensive. Crimson, who seems to have all the currencies of the territories we go to, pays the innkeeper for a room for three. The woman takes us to a room and gives Crimson the key since he's the oldest.
"Stay for as long as you need to," she says politely and with a smile.
"Thank you," Crimson replies with a smile and nod. "Should we stay more than one night, I will pay the extra fee."
The woman nods and leaves us to enter our room.
"How long will we be staying, Crimson?" Blackie asks, settling himself on the bed that is big enough to hold three adults.
The flame ninja thinks for a while. "We may have to stay two nights to rest up fully."
I yawn and lay on the bed. "We should go to sleep now, then," I mumble as Blackie covers me with the blanket. "Do we have anything to do for tomorrow?"
