Chapter 14: Behind the ENFJ’s Smile
The hallways of the school were bathed in soft light as ENFJ walked through with the grace of a shooting star. Her short yet radiant blonde hair swayed gently with the breeze. Every student she passed greeted her with a bright smile, and she returned it with equal warmth. She was the girl everyone admired: kind, popular, always ready to help.
As she prepared to leave the school, a group of students struggling to carry boxes caught her attention. Without hesitation, she approached them.
“Wait, let me help you!” she said with a dazzling smile, grabbing several boxes.Once that task was done, another student in need appeared, and then another. True to herself, ENFJ answered every call for help. Night had already fallen by the time she finally arrived at a cozy house, glowing with twinkling lights.
She entered quietly, took off her shoes, and heard a panicked voice coming from the living room.
“INFP, how did you get this scar?!” a woman exclaimed, grabbing the hand of a young girl.INFP, embarrassed, replied with a shy smile:
“It’s nothing, Mom, just a scratch from climbing a tree.”But her mother, Anabella, was having none of it.
“Emilio! Come quickly, this is serious!”Emilio, a warm-looking man, rushed in, panicked at the sight of the "injury," and dashed off to fetch the first aid kit. INFP, red with shame, cast a desperate glance at ENFJ, who stood silently at the door.
Watching the scene, ENFJ looked down at her own hand. A deep, old scar marked her palm—a silent witness to a painful past. She discreetly slipped on gloves to hide it, then announced her presence:
“I’m home!”All eyes turned to her, and the warmth of their welcome made her smile.
“Look at this, ENFJ,” said Emilio, holding up INFP’s hand. “A scar! It’s going to ruin her beautiful skin!”INFP, desperate, pleaded silently with ENFJ. After a moment’s thought, ENFJ said:
“Aunt Ana, Uncle Emi, have you seen the new Christmas trees the Hudsons put up? I think they look suspiciously similar to yours…”Anabella and Emilio froze, their faces turning serious.
“Those Hudson fools, how dare they copy us?!” Emilio exclaimed.
“They’ll regret this!” added Anabella, storming out with him in tow.INFP let out a sigh of relief.
“Thanks, cousin,” she said, hugging ENFJ.
“No problem,” ENFJ replied gently.Later, ENFJ climbed to her room. She washed her face and sat in front of an old framed photo. A blond man and a brunette woman smiled in the image: her parents. She gently ran her fingers over the frame.
“Why did you leave…?” she murmured as silent tears streamed down her cheeks. The loneliness and lack of parental love overwhelmed her at times. Seeing INFP so surrounded and loved reminded her of that void. But she quickly wiped her tears away.
“Come on, get up. You can’t cry,” she told herself softly, forcing a smile. When she left her room, her smile was flawless. But to her surprise, Anabella, Emilio, and INFP stood waiting outside her door.
“What’s wrong?” she asked with a forced smile.
They didn’t reply and instead stepped forward to embrace her in a group hug.
Anabella whispered:
“Sweetheart, you don’t have to face everything alone.”
Emilio added:
“You do so much for everyone… Let us be there for you.”
And INFP, her eyes shining, concluded:
“You should stop keeping your pain to yourself. Please, share it with us.”At those words, the dam ENFJ had been holding back for so long finally broke. Tears flowed freely as she collapsed into their arms. For the first time in years, she let herself cry, surrounded by warmth and love.
