ANTECEDENT: CHAPTER 27
THREE DAYS in on their visit to the countryside and Midnight did not understand how they lost the camper van. It disappeared while they were having dinner in a trattoria. When they came out, it just vanished. Poof.
Yes. A continental-boss-in-training, a tracker and two Orgánosi's freelancers who could end anyone's life got their camper van stolen.
In the parking lot, the four stood where their camper van was parked earlier and looked at each other. All in disbelief.
"Can you track it?" Blake calmly asked Love after the shock fade off.
Love showed the backpack slung over his shoulder. "I got all my stuff. Did any of you leave any phones or tablets in there that I can track?"
The three simultaneously shook their heads. They all got their mobile phones.
"How about laptop?"
"We plan to chill," sagot ni Blaze. "We left our laptop on the yacht."
Everyone became silent, and it became even more so when Love added, "that camper van is old. It has no tracking system built-in that I can remotely control, and even if I tracked it through the CCTC," he pointed at the CCTV monitoring on the street, "they're probably far away now, so..."
The four looked at each other once again.
After a while, Midnight spoke. "Looks like we're walking."
Blaze grumbled. "Fuck. Blakey, may I remind you that we're broke? Paano natin babayaran ang camper van na 'yon?"
Tinuro ni Blake si Midnight gamit ang hinlalaki nito. "We have mister-wealthy here. He'll pay."
Midnight grimaced, but did not reject Blake's words. Marami naman siyang pera. Hindi 'yon problema sa kaniya.
"Aside from walking, any other plans?" Love did not want to walk. He might end up dropping dead on the ground.
Love looked at Midnight. Midnight looked at Blaze. And Blaze looked at Blake.
Blake sighed. "We all have our wallets, right? Let's go find a place to stay first. Then we'll think of a plan."
With that, everyone left the parking lot and started looking for a place to stay on foot.
An hour later, Love was wheezing. "I'm dying. Save me."
Midnight clicked his tongue, took Love's backpack, and carried it himself. But even then, Love was close to crawling.
The weather was hot and dry—a typical summer in Italy. And here they were, walking in this uncomfortable weather!
"I see an albergo." Blaze pointed at a hotel still far away from them, but thanks to the sign, they could see it. "Come on. Hurry."
Out of pity, Midnight grab Love by the wrist and dragged the poor tracker to the hotel.
Midnight did not want to use his card because they were all given by his father, so Love became the funder. His card was used to book a room with two bunk beds. Fit for four people.
"So, what now?" Midnight asked after they settled in their room.
"Maliligo ako." Ani Blaze sabay pasok sa banyo.
"I'm fucking sleeping." Love was so tired; he just drops dead on the bed.
Midnight looked at Blake.
Blake shrugged. "Let them be. Tayong dalawa na lang ang magplano."
Midnight's expression became flat as he muttered under his breath. "Kahit dito, sinusubok ang leadership training ko."
