ANTECEDENT: CHAPTER 47

MIDNIGHT woke up with an aching body and the first person he saw was Silvanus, who was reading a book by his bedside. He looked around the room and at himself. They had changed his clothes and redressed his wounds.

"You're awake." Silvanus closed the book he was reading and handed him a glass of water while helping him to get up. "Drink first."

"Thanks." He drank the water and leaned on his bed's headboard frame. "How long was I out?"

Silvanus looked at his wristwatch before answering. "Twenty-one hours."

"Oh."

Silvanus looked at Midnight. "As much as I want to check your mental health, you should rest more."

"Hmm."

Silence fell on the room.

Shortly after, Silvanus broke it. "Dominick told me what you're planning to do. Like he said, it's a suicide mission. If your father finds out that you're not under his control anymore, the consequences would be immense for you."

"I know." He whispered, then placed back the glass on the bedside table before looking up at Silvanus and smiling at his doctor. "I'm just tired of this life, that's all."

Silvanus stilled. "But the risk—"

"I don't care." Midnight's smile remained. "I think I'm going to go crazy if I continue to live the life I have now. So, while I'm still sane, I want to do whatever I want."

Silvanus stared at Midnight for a long while before sighing. "Fine. Have it your way. Dominick told me to fortify your mind, but there's really nothing I can do to keep your mind safe. Just remember, if something happened, and you think you're going to lose your shit, call me immediately. I'll try my best to help you."

Midnight felt a lump in his throat. "Thank you."

Silvanus sighed, then patted Midnight's arm. "Have a good rest. You made everyone worried."

Before Midnight could ask who was the 'everyone' Silvanus was talking about, the door opened and the father and daughter duo, Dominick and Happy, entered.

"Night!" Thrilled to see Midnight awake, Happy ran to him. "I was worried!" She kneeled on the bed and hugged him. "How are you feeling? Are you okay? Are you hurting somewhere?"

Midnight smiled. "I'm fine. Don't worry."

Dominick rescued Midnight by pulling Happy away. "Don't hug him too much, princess. His wound might re-open again." Then he glared at Midnight. "Kid, you worried me so much I think I'm losing my hair early!"

Happy glanced at her father's head. "It's okay, dad. You still have tons of hair. Losing a few won't be a problem."

Dominick glared at his own daughter, but the intensity of his glare had lessened. "You're also one of the reasons why I'm losing hair! Why did you beat up your professor? It doesn't mean that you know how to fight that you'll beat up anyone you disagree with."

Happy crossed her arms and just sat on the edge of Midnight's bed, not answering her father.

Dominick shook his head and turned to Silvanus to ask about Midnight's condition.

Midnight leaned closer to Happy to ask in a low voice, "what happened with your professor?"

Since it was Midnight who will not be over acting like her father, Happy told him the truth. "He groped me."
