Chapter 23

-3rd POV-

"Hey. What're you doing?"

"Se—" Ciel was cut off as she moved closer, grabbing the bottom of his face.

"Don't move."

"Heeey theeere, Dooooll!" Someone called out to her.

"Wot's Doll doin'?" Dagger questioned as Snake shivered from the cold.

"Snake!" The girl said, as the earl squirmed to get out of her grip, before she grabbed the snake that slithered up, "A deadly snake was roamin' 'round." 

"Uwah!" The male said.

She then walked off, "Don't we keep sayin' to not let these buggers have free rein of the place?" She said.

"Why, ye—! Keep 'em to yer tent like ye ought!" Dagger exclaimed, "Eeeeek!"

Snake stayed quiet, as his snake slithered up his body and the other hissed.

"I don't wanna give up the ghost all sudden 'n' unawares, like!"

He walked off in silence.

"Sheesh, give us a break, mate!" The blond said.

Doll turned to the earl, wo tensed up, "This way." She said, grabbing his wrist, "Quick!" She led him off as he was confused.

The two crawled under the a rope.

"Don't touch that rope." She got up and looked around the corner, "We ought to be safe here."

"Wh—Why did you resc—" Ciel panted.

She turned to him, "Ya don't recognize me yet?" She untied her hat, "It's me. Me!"

His eyes widen, "Ah..." He pointed at her, "Freckle face...?! You're a boy...yet you dress like that...?!"

"Oi, 'tain't "freckle face," bub! What a rude feller, y'are! I'm a pure, honest-to-goodness maid, I am." She grabbed his hand and put it to her chest, "See?"

He instantly reeled back in shock and his face red.

"Wanna give us a tickle down there too to make sure?"

"No thank you!"

"Well?" She questioned, as he let out a cough, "Why were ya o'er there? Ya heard 'bout the venomous snakes from brother Joker, din'tcha?"

"Erm..." He stayed quiet.

No choice but to play it like I'm a thief for the present, hm?

"I'm sorry! I haven't messed with or taken anything at all today. I swear!" He covered his head, "Please don't kick me out of here!"

"Today?! You!"

"I lived in the east end before I was a page boy...and I did everything necessary to survive. I know I shouldn't steal, but I can't seem to break the bad habits from back then...even at the manor, when they found out about it...I—! If I'm thrown out of here, I'll have to return to the east end again—!"

Was my acting too obvious?

"...So ya really haven't stolen anythin', yeah?"

"No! I swear to god." He said.

"Ohhh, aaall right." Doll scratched the back of her head.

"Th-Then—?!"

"Well, I owe ya one, after all."

"Thank you so much!"

"Everyone's got one or two things they don't want no one to know. I know that, but...I wronged ya this afternoon."
