This idiot, Saransh. Who does he think he is? First, he practically crushes every bone in my body by lying over me—and then has the audacity to say cheesy things as if that's going to make me swoon. Weak in the knees? Maybe, but I wasn't about to let him know that.

I rub my nails together, a nervous habit I can't seem to shake. The whole family is seated at the dining table, dessert served—kheer, I made for my pehli rasoi. Normally, I'd be confident. I know I'm great at cooking. But today, I'm a little anxious.

(A ritual where the bride cooks something sweet for the whole family)

Not because I'm worried about what everyone thinks of my kheer—they'll love it. I'm nervous about Saransh tasting it.

He left the dining room for a few minutes to take a phone call, and that was my golden opportunity. While everyone else was chatting and eating, I slipped five full tablespoons of salt into his kheer. Pathetic, I know, but hey, it's the best revenge I could come up with on short notice.

Now, as I watch him sit back down and take his first bite, I can't help the evil grin spreading across my face.

Right on cue, Saransh starts coughing, his face scrunching up in disgust as he rubs his chest.

"Give him some water," my mother-in-law says from across the table, her voice laced with concern.

I almost forgot. I quickly pour him a glass of water and hand it to him, watching his Adam's apple bob as he gulps it down. For some reason, even that looks sexy.

But my smug satisfaction disappears when he glares at me. Oh, shit. He knows.

"What's wrong, beta?" his father asks.

"She put salt in my kheer," Saransh grumbles, still coughing a little.

"The kheer is perfectly fine, stop acting like a child," his father chides.
