Bali was a blast, but all good things must come to an end. Like this vacation and this story. The unexpected story of me and Saransh.
The driver parks the car inside the driveway of the palace. I do not wait for Saransh and instantly get out, eager to meet everyone. I walk inside without looking back, even though I can feel him strolling behind me, his gaze fixed on my back with a slight smirk on his face.
Whatever.
The moment I step in, I am greeted by a scene that freezes me.
Kakisa is chasing Rudra.
He jumps over the sofa and lands on the other side, and Kakisa follows him without hesitation.
"Ek baar pakad liya na," she yells, "phir dekhna tum dono bhaiyon ka kya haal karti hoon main!" Ah. Right.
Right. Raj and Rudra had come back from Bali only a few hours ago, and in less than two or three hours, they are already in trouble.
Maa sa appears just then. The moment she sees me, her frown melts into a warm smile. She rushes forward, and I bend to touch her feet, but she pulls me into a hug instead, pressing a kiss to my forehead. A second later, Saransh bends down and gets the same treatment.
"What did Raj and Rudra do this time?" Saransh asks casually, glancing at the chaos behind us, now relocated to the dining area, where Kakisa and Rudra are circling the table from opposite sites one step at a time.
"I don't know," Maa sa shrugs. "But I suppose we're about to find out."
She moves toward Rudra to help kakisa, but the idiot spots her coming. With a dramatic scream, he jumps onto the dining table.
Yes. Onto it.
Both Kakisa and Maasa gasp in horror as their precious crockery trembles under his weight.
Rudra grabs a plate, holding it up like a weapon and sits in the middle of the table. "Tod dunga main yeh!" he threatens. "Mujhe mere room mein jaane do!"
I burst out laughing. Saransh joins me, shaking his head.
"Welcome home," he mutters.
"Do you need help, Kakisa?" he calls out, still trying to hide his amusement.
She sighs dramatically. "No, no. Tum dono jao, rest karo. Isse toh main aaj dekh loongi."
That's all the permission we need.
We slip away toward the stairs, desperate to go to our room.
The moment we reach our room, the noise downstairs fades, and suddenly, it's just us.
Saransh turns to me.
I turn to him.
He reaches out, brushing a loose strand of hair away from my face and tucking it gently behind my ear. His hand lingers, cupping my cheek as he pulls me closer.
