Vaidehi, I... I came to—" Saransh stuttered, his voice uncertain.
Before he could finish, his phone rang. He ignored it, his fingers curling into a fist, but I gestured toward the device. "Just pick it up."
With a sigh, he answered. The moment he saw the caller ID, his face darkened.
"Who is it?" I asked.
"Himanshu," he muttered, then put the call on speaker.
A panicked, trembling voice came through.
"Bhai, the guards caught me. They're about to call the police. Agar tumhara aur tumhari biwi ka milaap ho gaya hai toh bacha lo mujhe aake," Himanshu nearly sobbed.
(If you and your wife are done meeting-up, come and save me)
I blinked. Milaap? What the hell was he talking about?
(Meet up)
I turned to Saransh. "You brought Himanshu along?"
Saransh looked almost guilty. "Yeah... he insisted."
"For what? Sneaking in? What were you both even trying to do?"
Saransh hesitated before mumbling, "I wanted to see you."
I scoffed. "If you wanted to see me, you could have come like a normal person, not like a thief!"
Without another word, I grabbed his wrist. "Come on, let's go get Himanshu before he ends up spending the night in jail."
We hurried out of my room. The palace was eerily dark at this hour, the corridors bathed in long shadows. I tightened my grip on Saransh's wrist, guiding him through the halls.
By the time we reached the guardroom, I could hear Himanshu pleading.
"Shakal dekho bhaiya aap meri, kaunse angle se chor lagta hoon mai aapko? Upar se niche tak branded kapdo me hoon!"
