"Oh god, I would rather die!" Suyash's voice echoed from the distance.
I barely turned my head.
I had far more pressing matters—like Vaidehi's lips on mine, her fingers tangled in my hair, the soft hum of the waves behind us. It was one of those moments that made the world feel perfectly still.
Until it didn't.
Without warning, her hands slid from my hair to my chest, and in one swift, utterly traitorous motion, she pushed me—hard.
Right into the ocean.
"What the fuck!" I sputtered as water swallowed me whole.
The wave slapped across my face, salt stinging my eyes. For a second, all I could see was blue and bubbles. The shock of it had my heart racing, but not nearly as much as what came next—an idea.
Vaidehi thinks she's smart, huh? Pushing me into the water to get her little revenge?
Fine.
I'll show her who's smarter.
I let myself sink lower into the shallow waves, even though I could've easily stood. I closed my eyes, let my body go limp, and pretended to drown—Oscar-level performance, if I say so myself.
From above, I heard her laugh falter.
"Saransh?" Her voice held just the tiniest crack of concern. "Okay—Saransh, stop playing."
A splash. Then hands. Her hands. Grabbing my arm, tugging me up. Her breath was quick now, her laughter gone.
I let her pull me to the surface, let my body loll like I'd blacked out completely. She shook me once, hard.
"Saransh?" Her voice was rising.
God, it took everything in me not to laugh.
The concern in Vaidehi's voice was starting to get to me.
"Saransh?" she called again, breath hitching slightly.
Okay—maybe this had gone far enough. I cracked one eye open, just a little. Enough to see her crouching beside me.
But then—shit.
Our friends were heading toward us.
I quickly shut my eye again. If Suyash and Himanshu saw my face, they'd call me out in two seconds flat.
"What happened?!" Yashvi's panicked voice rang out.
"We were... we were kissing," Vaidehi said in a rush, "and he pushed me in the water earlier, so I did the same to get back at him and now... he's not waking up!"
