The next day, the boys and I were trying to convince Jay to keep his word and visit his parents. We all had different tactics, despite us having the same goal. Most of us don't have a good relationship with our families, or we have no family to go back to altogether. I was the only exception with Jay- I may not have a great relationship with my mother, but my brothers and I are super close. "Sure got a lot of junk piling up." Kai said loudly, passing Jay with Zane. "If only there was a place we could get rid of it."
"If you don't mind, I'm trying to focus." Jay all but snapped.
"Hi mom and dad, of course, I'd love to visit! What kind of son would I be if I didn't want to?" Cole said, pretending to be on the phone. Jay laughed sarcastically. I stayed out of this, since I had no good relationships with my parents. Zane was an orphan with Kai, Cole only had his dad (Something he confided in me when I caught him crying over the anniversary of his mom's death) And I had a terrible relationship with my mother, even if I still love her deep down.
I had gotten another letter from her though, asking when I'd get over this silly phase again. It was awful to know I had no say in my life. She told me in her letter she was praying several times a day I'd see things correctly and come home to be married to my fiancé. She had sent me a picture of him too, hoping I'd change my mind.
The man looked old enough to be my father. If this is what she considered to be a young man, she's sorely mistaken. And she's got another thing coming if she thinks I'm going home to marry a man like him any time soon. For fucks sake, his hair is starting to grey in some spots!
I was brought out of my thoughts by Nya entering the room, and I scolded myself mentally for spacing out like that. "Heh-heh, hey Nya!" He said nervously, wiping oil off his face with a smile. It was cute how much he liked her.
"You gonna visit your parents today?"
"Uh, sure am! Just about to leave."
"Tell them I say hi." She walked out of the room, and I glared at Jay lightly, a smirk on my face. The rest of the boys look unimpressed, and Jay looked at least a little ashamed.
"What? So, my plates not that full."
"Uh-huh. Sure. Simp." I muttered the last bit under my breath.
We followed Jay to the area where the dragons rested, seeing Jay pulling on whisp's reigns. "Come on whisp! It'll be a quick visit! Just in and out, nothing more." Jay was basically begging the dragon to move, but Whisp wasn't having it. Sensei came out with a huge thermometer, humming disappointedly.
"It is as I suspected. The dragons are molting. They're shedding their scales."
"What does that mean?" Yeah, that was a great question. What did that mean?
"Every adolescent dragon goes through a transformation, before it becomes an adult. We must allow them to migrate east to the spirit coves for their transformation."
"Will we see them again?"
"It is hard to say. But we need to allow them to follow their path."
"Rocky's going east?" Cole walked up to rocky, petting him sadly. "Say it isn't so, rocky." The dragon puffed a bit, nuzzling up to him. Flame did the same with Kai, as did d/n to me. I pet them gently and gave a sad smile.
"Well, I guess I gotta go on this long walk all by myself. Sure would be nice to have some company." He was pointedly talking to Nya, but we of course, all joined in.
"Of course we'll go buddy!"
"I could use a break!"
"All you had to do was ask."
