(Haru's POV.)
"Move it, detective! We can't let officer Oozora have all the fun with Kirito!" The chief orders me as we ran across the floor trying to figure out where Subaru went, which was a total mystery after she ran off with the big bad chasing after her.
"Sorry chief! A little busy!" I yelled back as I was struggling against a goon holding a knife up to my chest, my pathetic 17-year old muscles barely able to keep the tip of the blade away from my vulnerable body as the man pushed harder with two hands to try driving that blade forwards.
Before I could actually finish that, chief Kaito took the man out with a quick but long trigger pull from his revolver, the bullet striking the goon in the right ribcage and letting me push him off.
"You're clear. Go! Go!" He added as he fired off the last 2 rounds in his weapon to give some semblance of suppressive fire, barely enough to make the people on the receiving end flinch. That was our cue to get the hell out of there, we ran out of the safety of the desks and bolted in the direction where we last saw Oozora-san run off to. Of course the goons followed us behind, we have to seal them off somehow...
As we were running through a hallway we came across an all-metal doubledoor that was both bulletproof and acted as part of the building's firewall, pushing through them, the overhead door closers then pushed the thick slabs of steel shut, right before I locked the springs of the closers with the help of the chief who had to lift me up like a fucking child to reach the mechanism, preventing them from opening again.
As we sealed off the hallway, we were just in time to hear the sound of the goons on the other end ramming hard into the doors only for them to not budge. Another bang but of course there was no give, even as shots rang out on the other side from the goons trying to shoot the door open.
"There... Go." The chief ordered as we moved along, now where did Subaru go? That was the question on our minds as we moved on, the other issue being that I don't have any other weapon now except my police baton, my pistol being discarded earlier after I shot off my last magazine.
"Ever fired a 'revolver' before, detective?" Chief Kaito then asked me. "... Yeah, Roboco taught me to." I responded, the old man snort-laughing for a moment before he commented "She really did teach you everything, it's rare to find someone nowadays who has. She raised you well."
"Why'd you ask that?" I then said, and he replied by reaching over to hand me the revolver. "This is your dad's, its rightful owner after Fumuji Tsumaka's death is within the hands of his son." He said, making me pause the running so I could take the gun. "If you have to, use it on the man who murdered your father, the one who murdered the creator of your mother figure and girlfriend."
The revolver was definitely the oldest firearm I've ever handled in my life, never have I ever held a gun that featured wooden grips and had this archaic cylinder with 6 separate chambers, each one holding an equally old .357 magnum bullet. And the cylinder swings out to eject the casings to replace them with fresh rounds.
Swinging out the cylinder, I found it empty and so I closed it back in so I could pull the trigger, the hammer moving back by itself as I pulled before slamming forwards in an audible click.
... Damn, I almost forgot how heavy and long the trigger pulls of these things are, and the whole gun overall feels like a brick and the swing out cylinder mechanism is ancient and slow compared to just dropping it out to replace it with a new cylinder.
