Chapter 9 | Part 2

Jayda walked into her room behind Hayden and fell onto the door as it closed behind her and sighed happily.

“I can’t believe Ethan’s back.”

She said to no one in particular, though Hayden was the only one to hear.

“You knew him years ago?”

“Yes, we met about 25 years ago. At first it was just that we would randomly see each other here and there, but we became friends, he came to my house, I went to his, we told each other everything. When one went away for a time, we would write to each other.  He was the only reason I survived mom’s death.  But then, 5 years ago his family suddenly decided they were leaving, he wouldn’t tell me why, he said goodbye and left, I never heard from him, nor of him.  Not even one letter, and now, he suddenly turned up on my doorstep.”

Hayden nodded Jayda shook her head smiling.

“We need to get ready.”

I can’t believe how stupid I am, thinking she could actually love me, a slave, her property.  

No, there’s no way.

There wasn’t even a chance before ‘Ethan’ came into the picture. She clearly found him attractive, and it had hurt her when he left before, of course she would love him, that’s just the way things worked.  

For the first time in my life I wished I was back at the auction house.

Everywhere else I had hoped and prayed that I would find a home, somewhere to live the rest of my life, but once I finally have a chance, I can’t bear to stay.  

The rest of my life will be torture here, watching the girl I love, love someone else.

She would be happy, but could I live my life, serving the man that stole her heart?

Ethan walked the corridors of the large house, he had changed into a suit and his slave into dress slacks and a button up white shirt, and he now surveyed the area, his slave following him.

It would be perfect, his first two attempts at Jayda’s life had failed, just as his father’s endeavor to crush her spirit had, but now, everything would be perfect.

“Hayden, Maci probably needs help downstairs.”

My mistress called to me from behind a closed door.

“I’ll go.”

“Thank you.”

I had already changed into the dress pants, white shirt and black vest that we had purchased earlier that morning, so I made my way out the door and down the stairs.
