The words hit me like a sledgehammer, leaving me reeling in disbelief.

"No, no, no..."

I muttered, my words a desperate plea for the impossible.

But as I looked into Rim's eyes, I saw only the painful reality staring back at me. My ears rang with the weight of her words, my breath coming in shallow gasps as my heart raced with a wrenching ache.

Dead? It couldn't be true. Mariam, my dear friend, taken from this world so suddenly and unfairly.

The shock of it all left me trembling and tearful, my body racked with sobs as I grappled with the overwhelming guilt that threatened to consume me.

"This... this can't be happening.." My voice cracking with grief. "...No! You're lying! You have to be lying!"

I then screamed, my voice raw with anguish, sending Rim scrambling for the door in fear.

As the door creaked open; Tamimi entered the room, his expression fraught with concern. He glanced between us, his eyes filled with worry, before closing the door behind him with a soft click.

"Did you tell her?"

He asked Rim, his voice low and urgent. Rim nodded silently; her regret evident in her down-turned gaze.

"She deserved to know."

Rim murmured softly, her voice barely above a whisper as Tamimi moved to my side, his movements careful and deliberate.

He sat beside me on the bed, his arm wrapping around me in a comforting embrace. I collapsed against him, my tears flowing freely as I buried my face in his chest, seeking solace in his warmth.

"I'm the reason she's gone.

I sobbed, my words muffled against his shirt, the weight of my guilt crushing me.

Tamimi held me close, murmuring words of comfort as he gently stroked my back. Time seemed to blur as we clung to each other, the pain of loss binding us together in shared grief.

When my tears finally subsided, I pulled away from Tamimi, meeting his gaze with a mixture of fear and sorrow. His eyes mirrored my own pain, his silence supported a balm to my shattered soul.

"When did... this happen?"

I asked, my voice trembling with dread, knowing that his answer would only confirm the devastating truth.

"Last night."

He replied quietly, his words hanging heavy in the air like a lead weight.

Last night?

The word echoed in my mind, sending a shiver down my spine as the reality of Mariam's death sank in.

I clung to Tamimi's warmth, my mind reeling with disbelief. Mariam, my dear friend, gone in the blink of an eye. The pain of her loss threatened to engulf me, leaving me numb and hollow inside.

But amidst the overwhelming grief, a thought pierced through the fog of my despair: the funeral. I needed to be there, to say goodbye to Mariam one last time, to seek forgiveness for my role in her untimely demise.

"When is the funeral?" I asked, my voice hollow with sorrow.

The words hung in the air like a lament, a desperate plea for closure in the wake of tragedy.

Tamimi's response was hesitant, his mouth opening and closing as he struggled to find the words. Before he could answer, a knock sounded at the door, and Rim moved to answer it, her presence a welcome distraction from the painful truth.
