Xoxo"Dad! My daddy's back!"
I shrieked, racing toward him. In an instant, I was in his arms, laughter mingling with tears of joy as he enveloped me in a tight embrace. With childish exuberance, I showed him the iPad and iPod, his chuckles echoing my own excitement.
"Get down, honey; you're wrinkling your dad's suit."
My mom interjected; her tone tinged with concern. Reluctantly, I released my hold on my dad, sheepishly meeting their gazes.
With a tender smile, my dad greeted me, his voice filled with warmth and affection. Before I could express my gratitude, he presented me with two small boxes, identical to the gifts from my mom. With eager anticipation, I unwrapped them, revealing matching iPods.
Undeterred by the duplication, I resolved to make use of both devices, a grin spreading across my face. But my dad had one more surprise in store: a smaller box containing a key adorned with a cherished photo. As he led me outside, my heart raced with anticipation.
To my astonishment, parked before us was a car-a gift beyond my wildest dreams. Overwhelmed with emotion, I threw myself into my dad's arms, gratitude overflowing. But my joy was short-lived as my mom's disapproving voice shattered the moment.
"I think she's too young for this. Stop spoiling her. Take it back." She interjected, her words casting a shadow over our celebration.
Both of us exchanged incredulous looks at mom, who stood behind me with an unreadable expression. Her sudden disapproval puzzled me; she had never objected to my dreams before, especially not when it came to this car.
How could she throw cold water on my excitement like this?
"Mom, this is my dream car! You know how much I've always wanted it. Please, Mom, don't do this. I want it."
I pleaded, my voice tinged with desperation as I rushed to the car and unlocked the door, eager to claim my prized possession. Slipping into the driver's seat, I was greeted by luxury at every turn-the chiller in the dashboard, the smooth steering wheel, the plush leather seats. It was perfect.
As I settled in, something on the backseat caught my eye-a bag. Curiosity piqued, I retrieved it and found a vintage styled diary nestled inside, accompanied by a small teddy bear holding a birthday card. A wide smile spread across my face as I glanced back at my parents, but they seemed preoccupied with their own conversation. Ignoring their hushed tones, I dove back into exploring my new car.
However, the sound of approaching footsteps drew my attention, and I looked up to see Mom opening the door and peering inside.
Confusion clouded my thoughts as she reached out her hand, prompting me to reluctantly place mine in hers. But instead of admiring the car, she pulled me out abruptly, her actions leaving me bewildered.
"Mom, what's going on?" I asked, my confusion mounting as she ushered me back towards the house.
"Your mom's right, darling. You're too young for it. I'll just keep it in the garage, and once you turn 18, you can take it out and drive. Alright?"
Dad's rushed explanation trailed behind us, his broken expression masked by a forced smile.
I frowned, torn between disappointment and disbelief, but Mom didn't pause, dragging me inside without a second glance.
As we reached the front door, Mom pushed me inside and snatched the iPod from my hand, handing it over to Dad. I watched, crestfallen, as she closed the door in his face, her actions leaving both of us stunned.
Dad's silent plea spoke volumes, but Mom remained resolute, steering me into the kitchen without a word.
Confused, hurt, disappointed? It was a painful chapter to write and therefore I am sharing it with you in bits because what's about to be revealed is going to break your heart.
