As my thoughts churned, a throbbing ache pulsed in my temples. I retreated behind a nearby pillar, praying to remain unseen.
My heart raced as Declan and my mother exited the room, heading upstairs. Seizing the opportunity, I darted out of the main doors, greeted by the warmth of the sun.
Across the lawn, Tamimi engaged in a heated exchange with Barron, their gestures animated, and voices raised. The intensity of their argument piqued my curiosity, adding to the day's mounting questions.
"Appi?"
Turning, I found Rim standing before me, clutching her doll.
"Hi, Rim. What are you doing out here?" I inquired.
"Nothing, just saw you standing here." She replied innocently.
"Could you do me a favor?"
I asked, a hint of urgency in my tone.
Her face lit up. "Yes!"
"Tamimi's over there. Could you go tell him I'm here? He might not see me." I requested gently.
With a nod, Rim dashed off to deliver my message.
Moments later, Tamimi's gaze found me, and he waved in acknowledgment before making his way over with Rim in tow.
However, his behavior took a puzzling turn. Pausing to glance inside the living room window, he then pretended not to notice me, continuing on his path.
As he approached the main doors, he leaned down to murmur something to Rim before striding off towards the garage alone.
The unexpected turn left me bewildered, my mind buzzing with unanswered questions.
Rim rushed towards me; her urgency evident as she pushed me towards the door despite my attempts to argue.
Her gesture left me frowning, but before I could protest, she silenced me with a "shoosh!"
"Appi; Tami said, 'Tell Anna my dad is watching me from the living room window. So, he is going to drive the car outside...' You go sit outside the gate. " She relayed breathlessly.
My mind raced to comprehend Tamimi's cryptic message. His father didn't want me to leave. Perhaps Tamimi was orchestrating a secret plan to help me escape.
"Fine. Thank you, Rim. Go inside now."
I whispered, my heart pounding with a mixture of anxiety and anticipation.
"Wait." Rim whispered back; her voice barely audible. "He said walk against the fence."
Understanding his instructions, I nodded gratefully.
"Okay, love.Bye."
With a wave from Rim, I embarked on the journey, my heart pounding against my chest as I tiptoed towards the garage. Sliding to the side, I pressed onward, hugging the fence as instructed. It was a nerve-wracking fifteen-minute trek, but the sight of Tamimi's car waiting outside filled me with relief.
"Open the gate for me."
I commanded one of the guards stationed nearby.
However, instead of complying, the guard's radio crackled to life, interrupting his response. He exchanged a few words with an unseen voice, his expression unreadable.
My patience waned as they continued their conversation, oblivious to my growing frustration.
"Open the gate for me!" I repeated, my voice tinged with urgency.
But their response shattered my hopes.
"Sorry, Ma'am, but we can't open the gate for you."
My disbelief turned to anger.
"What? What is that supposed to mean?"
The guard hesitated before explaining; "Ma'am, we just received orders not to let you out."
I felt the ground shift beneath me.
"Who says that? Why not? You can't keep me locked in here!"
Despite my protests, the guards stood firm in their resolve. Desperation clawed at me as I attempted to push past them, but they formed an impenetrable barrier.
Tears welled in my eyes as I struggled against their restraint, my fists pounding fruitlessly against their massive frames. The banging on the gate outside intensified, a stark reminder of my captivity. When Tamimi's voice rang out, calling my name from beyond the gate, a surge of determination flooded through me.
Summoning every ounce of strength, I renewed my efforts to break free. It was then that a figure materialized above the gates, crashing down upon the guards with a forceful impact.
As chaos erupted around me, a dim hope flickered within my heart.
