The students naturally split into their preferred groups, as they approached the dark trail leading to the abandoned shrine.
Team 1: Saiga, Samejima, Kanno and a reluctant Itsuo who got dragged along.
Team 2: Tawara, Toma, Eiki, Sohma and other students.
Team 3: Fujiyama-sensei, Kobayashi-sensei, and most of the students who wanted to stick with the teachers.
Team 4: Yankumi and Shin, because he refused to let her go alone.
Each group was given a single flashlight and a simple task—walk through the wooded path, reach the shrine, and bring back a small charm hanging near the entrance as proof that they made it.
As they entered the dark woods, the trees loomed over them, and the distant sound of waves faded into eerie silence. The only noises were crickets chirping and the occasional rustling of leaves.
[Team 1: Saiga's Group]
"I still don't get why I had to come," Itsuo whined, holding onto Kanno's arm like a lifeline.
"Because you're part of the group," Saiga said coolly, leading the way.
"This place is creepy," Samejima muttered, flashing his light around. The dense trees surrounding the narrow path made it feel like they were completely cut off from the beach and the rest of the world.
They finally reached an old wooden torii gate, barely standing with vines creeping all over it. Beyond it, the shrine ruins loomed ahead, covered in moss and decay.
"Alright, let's check it out," Saiga said confidently.
"Hell no!" Itsuo hissed, gripping Kanno tighter.
Suddenly, a loud rustling came from the bushes.
"WHAT WAS THAT?!" Itsuo yelped.
Before they could react, something shot out of the darkness—
A black crow flew past them, cawing loudly!
"AHHHHH!!" Itsuo screamed and bolted in the opposite direction, leaving the others stunned.
"...Seriously?" Kanno sighed.
[Team 2: Tawara's Group]
"We should do something fun while we're here," Tawara suggested.
"Like what?" Toma asked, raising an eyebrow.
"How about we scare the other groups?" Eiki grinned mischievously.
"That's evil," Sohma chuckled, "but I like it."
The boys started setting up little traps—placing sticks in certain areas to make snapping sounds, moving some old objects to make it seem like they were moving on their own, and even preparing to throw small pebbles into the trees to make eerie noises.
"This is gonna be hilarious," Tawara smirked.
[Team 3: Fujiyama's Group]
While some students in this group were still excited, a few were already regretting their choice to come.
"Are we sure this is a good idea?" One of the students asked nervously.
"It's just an old shrine," Fujiyama said reassuringly. "Besides, if ghosts were real, wouldn't they be bored of haunting the same place forever?"
"Don't jinx it!" Another student yelped.
Kobayashi laughed. "If you're that scared, just stick close to us."
