Dedicated to Kelsey, Julia, and Michael
We used to be children, no older than 4,
Playing with dolls as we crawled on the floor,
Making mudpies as we ran through the grass,
Not noticing time, not seeing it pass.We jumped from the swingset and soared through the air,
Told stories of ghosts and then played Truth or Dare,
Played we were wizards, with spellbooks and things.
Our imagination is what gave us wings. We went fishing for minnows down by the creek,
Swam in the pool and played hide and go seek,
Went sledding in winter and played in the snow,
And dreamed of adventures on which we would go.We laughed over jokes no one else understood,
Wiped away tears the way no on else could.
Had sleepovers where we did everything but sleep,
And whispered the secrets we always would keep. We've been best friends since the very first day,
Made memories to cherish when we're far away.
Oh friends, how I'll miss you on days we're apart,
But no matter what, we're still children at heart.© 2015
