I sat alone in my room listening to music and working on homework. Suddenly my phone vibrated. A smile went across my face. It had been a few days since me and Dirk had become friends. I was really starting to understand him and yet. . .some things about him were a complete mystery. I unlocked my phone, tapping on the new message.
'Hey Jake. You doing anything at the moment?'
I texted back. 'Just finishing some homework. It won't take too long for me to finish though.'
About a minute later he responded. 'Cool. Wanna meet up? Later I mean. I wouldn't want to interrupt the studies n all.'
I chuckled. 'Totally mate! I'll be looking forward to it.'
A few moments later a new message appeared. 'See you then. Your prince will be waiting.'
I rolled my eyes at the last message. You have to save a guy a few times and the next thing you know you're his damsel in distress. I hugged my knees to my chest and shook my head, a grin on my face. Honestly, I didn't mind it. Not one bit.
*Time Skip*
I set my books aside, and ran a hand through my hair. It had taken a couple of hours but I did it. I finally finished my homework.
'Hey ol' chum. Finally finished my studies. Ready to meet up?' I texted.
He responded quickly. 'Finally English. For a second I thought you'd cancel on me. No worries though no one can resist the Strider charm.'
I laughed at this and typed back. 'Very funny. Meet me at the park near the library?'
I waited patiently as a new message arrived. 'Sounds like a plan. I'll be there in 30.'
I then locked my phone and stretched. Might as well get ready now. I only lived about 15 minutes away from the park so I had some spare time. You can probably practice you're songwriting once you're there. I pulled my combat boots on and grabbed my messenger bag, slinging it across my shoulder. I quickly left my room, descending down the stairs. Reaching the bottom, Bec jumped and happily licked my hand with his tail wagging and excitedly barked.
"Oh hello boy!" I said as I knelt down, petting his soft white fur. Just then I felt a gaze on my back and I turned to see green eyes burning into me.
"Where do you think you're going?" She asked, giving me a curious look and nodded at my bag.
"Geez Jade, no need to creep up on me like that! Besides, I'm just going to meet a friend." I said and she smiled and bounded up to me, giving me a tight hug.
"Oh Jake! I'm so happy! You made a friend!" I hugged her back. For a little sister, she sure can be scary when she needs to be. I never knew a 12 year old could be so terrifying. She treats me like I'm the younger one most the time!
"Do me a favor and tell them where I'm off to?" I asked, readjusting the strap on my shoulder and nodding towards the study where our grandfather must have been. She nodded happily and I said my farewells as I finally made it out of the house. I waved goodbye to her as i saw her in the window. I'm happy I made a friend as well.
