I blinked. I had literally just checked the messages and he noticed. I didn't want to think about it too much, it would probably make me really awkward. Or secretly smile. Either way. I chewed on my lip, and I noticed Jane was singing to herself. It was soothing since I was actually a ball of nerves at this moment.

"It's hard to be what you need through a static screen.Been trying to speak for weeks and weeks.Open my mouth,All that comes out is white noise and incomprehensible sounds,And all you ever do is turn me down."

I glanced at her with dazed eyes, seeing she was twiddling with some flowers. Her voice was very soft and it reminded me of the piano. Her and Dirk were very talented. I was lucky to be friends with them. I blushed a bit to myself and took another deep breath. I knew liking both of them was wrong? I just couldn't help it I guess. I forgot about the phone and quickly checked the screen. Sure enough there was another text.

I know you saw my message English. You can't escape the one and only Dirk Strider.

That made me roll my eyes and laugh a bit. He always had a way of making me laugh. Sometimes unintentionally. I quickly texted him back.

Sorry mate. I'm with Jane right now.. I can probably catch you tomorrow, or when I can. It sort of depends on you honestly. Whatever's whatever.

He saw this and started typing and I clicked the lock button. I checked the time and saw it was almost 5. I had spent 2 hours with Jane. I panicked once I realized I needed to be home soon. Sliding my phone into my pocket, I suddenly stood, gently grabbing Jane's hand. While doing this I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder.  She looked up at me and blushed but under the circumstances I tried not to notice. None the less I had butterflies.

"Jake?" she raised an eyebrow with worry and I gently tugged on her hand. She glanced back at the table where we had just sat, and the sun showed her eyes more. I could see the clear water from the island..back home. I shook my head mentally, there wasn't time for this.

"Sorry Janey but I have to-" I gulped. Did I just call her Janey? Nevermind, "I have to be home soon. Come on." I helped her stand, still holding onto her hand. She didn't seem to mind. She turned and grabbed her bag doing the same as I had done moments before.

"Alright Jake. Well, it was nice hanging out with you. Even though it was unplanned. I hope you get your memory back." she said, glancing at my hand and looking back up to me. I smiled. She was so sweet. I had forgotten I still had her hand in mine and I slowly ended it. Not like I wanted to. But I didn't want to be late. Jade would kill me.

"But one more thing." I looked up from my panicked jumbled thinking and I glanced down at Jane who was a few inches shorter than me. We were close again. I almost choked on air.

"Wha-" I was cut off when she quickly tiptoed up to reach, kissing my cheek. I felt my face go flush. She giggled and I stumbled on my words.

"I'll s-see you tomorrow then?" I said quickly and rubbed the back of my neck, glancing at the ground. Or anywhere else. So she wouldn't notice my face. Which was probably really red. I awkwardly coughed into my fist and I mentally kicked myself. Why was I so bad at human interaction.

"Of course. Later Jake!" she gave one last smile before giving a wave and leaving. I stayed frozen where I was. I looked at her as she left and I was so confused. I ran my hands down my face. That was the last thing I had expecting. I wasn't expecting anything actually. I chuckled softly to myself, adjusting the strap so it went across my chest. I started walking home from the park and was kind of upset I had to. It was a beautiful day. I quickened my pace as I remembered Jade. I am so dead

*Time Skip*

I rushed through the front door, hoping not to run into Jade so soon. Beck excitedly barked and jumped around me in a playful manner. I shushed him to no avail. He jumped up on me and I laughed and started to pet the mass of white fur. I couldn't help it he was such a good dog.

"Hey Beck. Do you know where Jade is?" he turned his head in a questioning manner then started panting. He happily ran in the direction of the backyard. Of course. She was in her sanctuary. Walking into the old fashioned living room, I took off and placed my bag onto the red velvet couch. I saw a flash of white fur and headed in that direction. Once I was in the backyard I headed for the greenery. She had an infatuation with plants and spent a majority of her time tending to them or working on some of her inventions. I opened the glass door and was met with what seemed like a rainforest. Beck pranced ahead of me.

"Jade?" I called, carefully stepping over vines and ducking from branches. How did she manage to grow all of this?

"Jaaaaake." she answered and I heard the annoyment in her tone. I followed the sound of her voice and soon stumbled upon her. She was sitting in a clear area, tying and adjusting the colorful strings on her fingers. I saw all of her in progress inventions and her tools were scoured about. I raised an eyebrow.

"Really Jade?" I asked, the same tone in my voice. She knew I didn't like it when she left some of her more important stuff lying around. I didn't want to one day fall onto one and ruin it. She met eyes with me and stuck out her tongue. I did the same back.

"Where have you been? I was about to go looking for you with my gun." she said, showing a bit of protectiveness. I looked at her shotgun leaning on her desk which held her computer. I leaned down to her, kissing her forehead.

"I'm fine Jade. Plus I'm pretty sure that sort of thing is illegal. I can not afford bailing you out." I said, and she rolled her eyes and smiled. I smiled back and I stood back up and glanced around the foliage around us.

"Yeah, I guess that's true. But don't make me hunt for you." she had a warning tone in her voice and I chuckled.

"Jade seriously, I'm fine. You forget that I'm older than you. Plus I can protect myself." she gave me a look of bemusement at this with her bright emerald eyes, and I faked an offended reaction. She laughed and I broke into a grin. She stood once she finished with all of her 'reminders' and she brushed a lock of hair out of her face. It was getting pretty long. From the looks of it she probably just woke up from one of her multiple daily naps. I held my hand out to her, nodding back to the house.

"Come on, we don't want to miss dinner."
