Dirk turned to me, a hand on his front door knob. I flustered a bit at the sudden attention.
"Just warning you. . .we're not a normal family." He said, an apologetic look on his face. Not a normal family? What does that mean?
He then opened the door and took a step inside to be rained on by fleshy dolls with big noses and bare rumps. My eyes widened then turned into a fit of laughter. He covered his face, a groan escaping his lips. I couldn't stop laughing.
"DAAAAVE!" He yelled, revealing his bright red and embarrassed face.
"Yeah man?" A shorter blonde kid asked, leaning casually against the beginning of the stairs. He had a stoic look on his face and I wiped the tears from my eyes, finally getting over the hilarious sight. He noticed me and tilted his head.
"Who's this?" The boy asked, nodding in my direction. I noticed the round shades he wore which also hid his eyes. It took me a moment to realize. This is Dirks little brother. I blushed a bit to myself for not realizing straight away. They both had the same shade of hair, stoic expressions, and even looked similar.
" This is Jake English. Classmate." Dirk said, introducing me. I gave a smile and an awkward nod. The boy then nodded to himself, a smirk then lighting his face.
"Well Jake, I'm Dave. And I'm glad you got to see Dirks entrance into our humble abode. If you don't mind, I have some raps I've gotta be writing." He then waved his departure and Dirk turned to me, hiding half of his face.
"I'm sorry you had to witness that" he said, and I giggled a bit at his sudden awkwardness. I've never seen him like this before.
"Its fine mate!" I said, giving a reassuring grin.
"Before he has a chance to embarrass me, might as well introduce you to Bro." He said, leading me into a room past the living room that had interesting comics spewn about. Interesting. . .
"Bro does some online junk." Dirk explained, giving me a signal to wait. I stopped in my tracks and studied the drawings around me.
"Bro, this is Jake." Dirk said, pointing to me. I looked up to the taller man. He was very athletic looking and had a slight beard to him. He smiled as he saw me.
"Its nice to meet you Jake." He said simply, as I noticed the deep tone in his voice. I nodded a polite reply, staring at the shades on his face. Why does everyone in this house hide their eyes? A wave of curiosity took over me.
"Sorry Jake, but I have to be drawing now. You know how it is. Later little man." Dirks older brother said, giving me a tip of the hat and Dirk a complicated handshake before he left the room. Then it was just me and Dirk. Me and Dirk. . Alone?! I blushed intensely.
"Now we can actually hang out." Dirk said, giving me a smile. I quickly nodded my head as he walked towards me, grabbing the hem of my sleeve and leading me upstairs.
"We can do whatever you want. Video games, Netflix, swords." Dirk said as I followed him along. If only he knew how I felt. . .
