Author's Pov
The silence had descended upon them, the awkwardness growing with each passing second for both of them. But Akshita decided to pose the question that had been lingering in her mind since their last conversation. "Ek baat puchhe aapse?" She tilted her head slightly towards him and asked, her tone laced with hesitation. "Ji?" Avyay briefly glanced at her and nodded slightly, encouraging her to continue.
"Have you ever loved someone?" It took only one word, 'love,' to make his head turn towards her in a smooth motion, his eyes betraying a hint of vulnerability. However, Akshita's gaze was cast upwards at the moon, her eyes filled in contemplation.
Avyay's gaze lingered on her; a multitude of emotions swirled inside him, triggered by her simple yet poignant question.
He didn't said anything, but his eyes conveyed a depth of feeling. Yet, Akshita was so engrossed in her own thoughts that she remained oblivious to his unspoken words.
"Haan...." Avyay's voice was barely audible, his eyes still fixed on her. Her gaze flickered with a fleeting sense of feeling near sadness, but she swiftly masked it, replacing it with an air of excitement that seemed almost pretended.
"Really?!" she exclaimed, but her body stiffened in an unusual way, surprisingly. Avyay leaned against the tree behind him, crossing his arms against his chest, as the veins popped out from his skin, visible in his half-sleeve t-shirt.
He just hummed in response, his eyes not leaving her even for a second. "Kis se? I mean, kon hai vo?" Her voice came out desperate, as if she was dying to know who he was talking about, only to earn a deep chuckle from him.
"Hai koi... aap nahi janti unhe..." he said, now the despair in his eyes was replaced with a mischievous grin.
"Is it? Then, what's her name?" Akshita was urgently trying to get the tea spilled, but he wasn't the one who would give her what she wanted so easily. "Unka naam hai............," he stretched the last word while she stared at him in desperation.
".......mein nahi bataunga!" Just as he completed, he laughed to himself. Akshita's face dropped, and she made a scowl. "Fine! Not like I'm dying to know!" She got back to her sky-gazing, and he just adored her with a sly smirk playing on his lips.
When Avyay confessed his love for someone, Akshita felt a pang inside, and a tinge of sadness swept over her, as if she wasn't ready to accept it. The reason behind her emotions remained unclear, even to herself. "But you can share other details instead of saying who she is, can't you?"
Her voice took on a slightly pleading tone, and Avyay took his time, acting as if deep thought, considering his response. Finally, he let out a slow, long sigh, showing that he was doing a great work. "Alright, I'll tell you." Akshita's excitement threatened to surface, but she controlled it before he thought of her as a mental asylum patient.
"So tell me..." Akshita turned to face him, sitting cross-legged with an air of anticipation, her curiosity about the mysterious girl evident. "Desperate much, huh?!" Avyay leaned closer and teased, a hint of mischief creeping into his smirk, his sweet smile long gone.
