Author's POV
Warm golden light poured into the room through the wide window at its center, casting a soothing glow across the spacious interior. At the table placed just in front of the window sat a figure. The sunlight traced the delicate lines of her face, making her features appear enhanced. Her lower lip was caught between her teeth, while loose strands of hair framed her face like curtains. Fingers moved swiftly over the laptop keys, the faint sound of typing filling the serene morning air.
Steam curled from the hot cup of tea placed beside the laptop, drifting upward before escaping through the open window. Akshita's leg shook in a quick rhythm beneath the table as her eyes scanned the screen, jumping from one internship listing to another, fingers ready to fill out the next form.
Just then, a ping sound broke her focus, and a small notification popped up on the screen. Her lashes lifted, gaze darting upward to read it. At that exact moment, Avyay strolled in lazily, one hand clutching a file, while the other scrolling through his phone as his eyes ran over details of the upcoming collaboration his company was working on.
Akshita's movement froze, her lip slipping free from her teeth's hold. An audible gasp escaped her mouth, loud enough for him to hear. Avyay's brows furrowed as he stepped closer, coming to stand right behind her chair. He leaned in, his hands resting on either side, and she felt the faint warmth of his breath against her exposed nape. But that wasn't what made her pulse race.
It was the notification on the screen. Her expression shifted instantly, horror flickering across her face.
"Kya hua?" Avyay muttered, before his eyes followed hers. And then his face changed too.
The results were out.
They exchanged a quick glance, the fear visible in both their eyes. Avyay caught the tension in her shoulders and decided to ease it in his own way.
"Aree, result aa gaya!" he chimed, forcing an excited tone.
"Kyun aaya?!" The words slipped out before she even realized.
"Kya?" he frowned.
"Kuch nahi..." Akshita muttered bluntly, her gaze darting back to the screen.
"Now open it quickly. I'm way too excited!" he urged, leaning closer.
She shot him a deadpan look. "Aapko kis baat ki khushi ho rahi hai? Hum yahan dar ke mare mar rahe hain aur aap excited ho rahe hain? Kaise pati hain aap!"
Akshita didn't even realize when her frustration took over, until her own hand flew up to shut her mouth, as if trying to send the words back in. Heat rushed to her cheeks.
Avyay simply cleared his throat, too stunned...or maybe too amused to speak.
She flashed him an apologetic, sheepish grin before clicking on the message. It took a second to load, either hearts thumping in anticipation. They both leaned in, only for the screen to reveal an empty column, waiting to be filled for the results to appear.
