"I was relieved when I got your letter back. I felt good that you wanted to talk to me." My father said as we sat across from each other at this coffee shop.

After I replied to his letter, he asked if we could meet today and see each other again.

At first, my answer was no.

But then, something in me changed. And I wouldn't wanna regret anything later so I decided to just meet with him and see what's up.

"Yeah.." I said.

"Look I know this is pretty awkward for you, it is for me too. But I'm glad you were open enough to come see me." He said.

"No problem." I said shrugging.

"So tell me what's been going on? How many grandkids do I have now?" My dad asked.

"Two. One girl, one boy." I said and he smiled.

"What's their names?" He asked.

"My daughter is named Ivory. My son is Trevante Jr." I said.

"Nice. I would love to meet them and your husband as well." My dad said.

"We can work that out" I said. "What about you? Do you have any other kids besides me?" I asked.

"I have a son, he's a junior in high school." He said.

"Oh okay, okay. So I have a little brother." I said.

"You do" He said with a smile.

"And his name is..?" I asked.

"Kameron." My dad said.

"Okay cool." I said, not really knowing what else to say to that.

"Maybe one of these days I can get you two to meet and bond." My dad said.

"Sure thing. Just gotta figure out what day cause I'm tied up with my babies and the salon." I said.

"So.. You own that salon?" My dad asked.

"Yes" I said.

"How long have you had it?" He asked.

"About five years now." I said.

"Wow. Well, I'm really proud of you. I remember when you were like ten, you would braid up all the doll heads. So I'm not surprised you chose cosmetology as the route to go." My dad said.

"I remember that too. Got good practice on those dolls." I said chuckling.

"I'm proud of you Janet." He said to me.

"Thank you.." I said.

He cleared his throat, taking a sip of his drink before asking, "How's your mom doing?"

"She's good." I said.

"Does she still say bad things about me?" He asked laughing a little. I laughed and shook my head.
