Kalos was safe.

The skies had cleared. The sun shone once more across the scarred plains outside Lumiose City. Where devastation had reigned, now came peace—restoration, healing, hope.

Team Flare's stronghold? Gone. Yveltal and Xerneas? Free. Zygarde? Whole again.

Ash and his friends stood at the heart of it all—battered, bruised, and proud.

In the days that followed, Kalos began to recover.

Cleanup crews moved in. News reporters flooded the streets. Citizens gathered in parks and plazas to cheer for the young heroes who had saved their world.

And yet... Ash remained the same.

He trained early in the mornings. He ate with his friends at the academy. He teased Clemont, battled Alain, and listened patiently to Professor Jennifer's long ramblings about legendary anomalies. He laughed with Shauna, got roped into dance-offs by Tierno, and helped Trevor photograph Pokémon in the wild.

He sparred with Korrina and her Lucario, exchanged tactical notes with Sawyer under a tree, and playfully dodged Aria's fashion critiques about his "eternally basic" cap.

Astrid challenged him in strategy debates, often pushing his thinking with sharp observations—but always with a smirk that said she respected him more than she let on.

And every time Serena caught him staring at the clouds with a peaceful smile, he'd just shrug—and she'd smile right back.

To anyone else, he was just another student again.

But not to Sycamore.

"Something Doesn't Add Up..."

The professor stood alone in his lab late one night, staring at a projection on his holoscreen.

A silhouette. A news clip. A headline from years ago.

Unidentified Trainer Defeats Tapu Koko: Aether Foundation Remains Silent

He muttered to himself.

"The aura mastery. The Mega Evolutions. The bond with Lucario. The battle tactics..."

He swiped through photos:

With a swipe, more images appeared:

– A younger Ash shaking hands with Champion Lance at the Silver Conference.
– A shadowed photo of a boy riding Solgaleo across the Alolan skies.
– A Battle Frontier highlight reel featuring a trainer with a familiar stance.
– A similar looking boy having a battle with  Hoenn Champion Steven Stone.

He narrowed his eyes.

Even his attempts to research Ash through formal channels had turned up... nothing.

"Why would a basic trainer's record be locked?" he muttered.

He remembered the letter Professor Juniper had sent before Ash arrived. She hadn't said much—just that he was different, and Kalos would benefit from having him enrolled. At the time, Sycamore had assumed she meant gifted... but this?

Sycamore exhaled sharply.

A deep breath.

Then—he opened his notebook. A single page, half-scribbled in urgency:
