The night air was thick with tension as Ash, Serena, Clemont, Gary, and the rest of their classmates gathered in a secluded spot outside Prism Tower. The destruction caused by Team Flare's sabotage had sent shockwaves through the city, and now they needed to regroup.
Ash clenched his fists. "We came so close to stopping them... but they still got away."
Serena placed a hand on his shoulder. "We'll get another chance, Ash. We just have to stay one step ahead."
Paul crossed his arms. "We need more than hope. Team Flare has resources and is willing to burn everything to the ground if it means covering their tracks."
Clemont adjusted his glasses. "That's what worries me. If they were willing to destroy Prism Tower, what's stopping them from doing worse?"
Sawyer, holding his notebook tightly, frowned. "We need to piece together what we know so far. Maybe there's still something we can use."
Tierno nodded. "Yeah! There's gotta be something they left behind, right?"
Alain, who had been silent up until now, finally spoke. "There might be one clue left. Lysandre."
Everyone turned toward him. Alain's expression was unreadable, but there was something heavy behind his words.
"He was always careful," Alain continued, "but even he would have had contingencies. If Team Flare is still active, they're working off a plan that was in motion long before this."
Trevor, usually one to stay in the background, stepped forward. "So, are we looking for hidden data? Someone who might have been a part of the original Team Flare but defected?"
Astrid crossed her arms. "It's a long shot, but if there's even a chance, we have to take it."
Aria nodded. "The problem is, where do we start?"
Korrina smirked. "Simple. We go looking for trouble."
Serena sighed. "Why does that sound like an 'Ash Ketchum Special' plan?"
Ash grinned. "Because it works."
Shauna, not wanting to be left out, stepped between them. "Then let's make it official. We're all in this together."
Gary smirked. "Of course, but don't fall behind, Ashy-boy."
Ash shot him a glare. "Who's falling behind? Last I checked, I beat you in our last battle."
Serena cleared her throat. "Speaking of battles..." She grabbed Ash's arm, a little too quickly, making Shauna frown.
Shauna looped her arm through Ash's other one. "Yeah, Ash, you should totally train with me tomorrow. I have a new strategy I wanna test!"
Serena narrowed her eyes slightly. "He promised to help me with my performance routine first."
Aria chuckled. "Well, if we're fighting over Ash's time, maybe I should claim a spot too."
Korrina put a hand on her hip. "Not a bad idea. I wouldn't mind a sparring session."
Ash, completely oblivious, laughed nervously. "Uh, I guess we'll figure it out later?"
Paul rolled his eyes. "This is ridiculous."
Sawyer scribbled something in his notebook. "Note to self: Ash Ketchum is completely unaware of romance."
Tierno elbowed Trevor. "This is actually kinda fun to watch."
Trevor chuckled. "You're not wrong."
Despite the lighthearted moment, they knew the real danger was still ahead. The next step in their mission was clear: find out where Team Flare would strike next.
The Next Morning
Ash and the others gathered at the training field, keeping an eye on their surroundings while discussing their plan.
Clemont pulled out a map. "Based on what little information we have, there are two places Team Flare might target next: the power plant outside of Lumiose City or the abandoned Team Flare base in the mountains."
Alain studied the map. "If they're after something valuable, the power plant makes sense. Energy is a major resource."
Gary nodded. "And if they're regrouping, the base would be the perfect place."
Paul frowned. "Splitting up is risky."
Korrina stretched. "But necessary."
Serena turned to Ash. "What do you think?"
Ash crossed his arms. "We'll split into two teams. One group will check the power plant, and the other will scout the base."
Shauna grinned. "Guess I'm on your team, Ash."
Serena huffed. "Not if I get there first."
Clemont sighed. "Priorities, guys."
Astrid smirked. "This is going to be interesting."
Tierno clapped his hands together. "Alright! Let's settle this with a battle! Whoever wins gets to pick their team first."
Ash grinned. "You're on."
The battle that followed was intense, with Ash going up against Gary, Serena against Shauna, and Korrina against Trevor. The friendly competition brought out everyone's best, but in the end, Ash and Serena emerged victorious.
Serena playfully nudged Ash. "Guess that means we get to choose first."
Shauna pouted. "No fair."
Paul shook his head. "We don't have time for this. Let's move."
Splitting into their teams, the group set off—one heading to the power plant, the other to the mountains. But as they departed, none of them noticed a pair of shadowed figures watching from the treeline.
The real danger had only just begun.
To be continued...
