"Your turn, Naruto..."

I retreat. Kitsune and Yako are gone, already moving through the village to help wherever they can. And I'm left alone.

My eyes stay on Naruto, standing tall at the heart of this sea of rubble. His gaze is focused, his chakra steady. He stands among the ruins like a symbol of hope—and that's exactly what he is.

I breathe calmly, for the first time since the attack began.

You did it, Naruto. You really did.

He wears the garb of the toads now. His expression is serious, but in his eyes burns pure determination. No hesitation. No doubt. His new strength is tangible—the natural energy cloaking him like living fire. So familiar, yet so different.

I watch him dodge one of the Pains, watch him react with precision as his Rasenshuriken slices through the air. Controlled. Powerful.

Minato-sensei... you would be so proud of him. I am.

A soft smile forms on my lips, almost without thinking. The tension of the past hours begins to release from my body. I've achieved my goal: protect Naruto, buy time, prepare him.

Now he doesn't fight like a child.

He fights like an heir.

The heir of those who came before—Jiraiya, Minato, Kushina. And mine as well.

I'm ready to stay in the background now. To watch. To trust him.

But then—

A sharp, searing pain tears through my back—so sudden, so deep that it knocks the air from my lungs. For a moment, there is only emptiness, followed by a burning roar in my ears.

Air escapes my throat in a gasp. Something cold and metallic has pierced between my ribs—merciless, precise.

I feel my body flinch—not from fear. But from fury. From horror.

And then...

...comes the blood.

The warm, sticky liquid pours down my side, burning like molten fire along my skin. My entire body screams. My mind scrambles to keep up with the pain, to process it—but it's too much. Too fast.

Slowly, staggering, I turn my head over my shoulder... my limbs barely responding.

And there he is.

The man who once took everything from me.

The one who stole my brother Shisui's life.

The one who placed his greed above every soul—even mine.

Danzo Shimura.

His stare is as cold as ever. Emotionless. Calculating. A predator that never changes.

"You should've stayed away, traitor," he hisses.

No anger in his voice—only that same dismissive malice.

"I won't waste this opportunity. Problems like you... need to be erased."

His words pierce deeper than the blade ever could, stabbing straight into my weakened heart.

I feel my knees buckle—but before I collapse, I force myself into one last movement. A hand sign. Concentrated chakra.

With every ounce of strength I have, I place a sealing jutsu over my eyes. My Mangekyō will never fall into his hands. Never again will Danzo take what's mine.

I fall.

The ground rushes up to meet me far too quickly.

I hit the earth hard. The impact reverberates through my skull, but I hardly feel it.
