Casimir was furious. He wasn't surprised by this outcome, but he did hope that his parents would be more understanding. They didn't rule this kingdom with an iron fist like some of the nations, so why were they forcing him to marry a woman? If it were one of his other brothers, then they wouldn't have batted an eye. His younger siblings could marry whomever they wanted, but not Casimir. It wasn't fair.
He wanted to see Logain. The only thing that would make the prince feel better was being with the warlock. He remembered where Logain said his house in the capital was. Now, Casimir just needed to find it. After sneaking out of the castle to explore the streets of Ambria, he knew the capital well. Casimir would return to his room, grab one of his cloaks, and then he would leave. The guards most likely wouldn't let the prince leave alone at night like this, but he didn't care. Casimir didn't care what anyone said. He would walk out that door, and no one was going to stop him.
As he made his way to his room, he heard someone quickly come up behind him and then heard his sister's voice shout out to him, "Casimir, wait!"
Casimir didn't come to a halt, but he slowed his pace for the princess to catch up to him. He wasn't angry at her for what had happened. It wasn't his sister's fault, but Casimir wasn't in the mood to deal with any of his family. In fact, he felt a tinge of jealousy around his sister. Princess Selene was allowed to marry a warlock, which was frowned upon, but she was still allowed to do it. She could be with the man she loved.
He knew he shouldn't take his anger out on her. With a sigh, he asked, "What is it, Selene?"
The princess tried to catch her breath as she caught up with her brother. She left the dining hall shortly after Casimir, but the prince was fast. She was surprised that she even caught up with him. She said, "I have an idea for the ball. Invite Logain and ask him what his measurements are. Since the ball is in a week, I need those measurements by tomorrow, or this isn't going to work."
His sister got right down to business. Casimir raised an eyebrow at her. "Why do you need his measurements?"
"For his outfit." Selene didn't give much information, which left Casimir curious.
But it also left him doubtful. Even if Logain agreed to attend, it wouldn't make a difference. The warlock would watch as Casimir was forced into a marriage he didn't want. Logain would be left heartbroken. Casimir didn't know if he could do that to him.
"Selene . . . Inviting him won't change anything. If anything, once I'm forced to choose someone, it'll only further prove that we can't be together. Why should I subject him to that?" Casimir didn't think this was a good idea.
"That's not going to happen. Trust me, okay?" Selene wasn't taking no for an answer.
He wanted to trust her. Her confidence that everything would work out only made him even more curious about what his sister was up to, but he doubted she would give him the answer no matter how many times he asked. If she thought this would work out, then Casimir would try to have some faith. His sister never steered him wrong before.
Casimir was feeling a little better after speaking with his sister, but he still wanted to see Logain. "I'm going to see him now. I'll have the measurements for you by tomorrow."
His sister gave him a small smile. "Have fun, and don't get caught by the guards. After your disappearance, our parents have them on high alert."
Of course, they did. They weren't going to let him leave so easily this time, but Casimir would still escape. He knew all of the exits like the back of his hand. They wouldn't all be guarded.
After saying goodbye to his sister, Casimir prepared to leave.
