Logain lay in bed alone in the guest room he was given for the night. His thoughts kept drifting to Meredith and what needed to be done, but it was something he knew he couldn't do alone. After Casimir told the others the truth, none of them were willing to allow Logain to help anymore. If it weren't for the queen's visions, they could have easily taken down the High Priestess together. They still could, but without the threat of Logain losing his life. Once again, he was left feeling useless.
He was frustrated, but there was nothing he could do to change their minds now. None of them wanted to risk Logain's life, even if he believed that they would be victorious. Without his magic, he didn't know what the other men would do to get the ring from Meredith. If it was always on her, then stealing it wouldn't be an easy task. Amaris was the only one who could get close to her, but even he wasn't trusted. The High Priestess only saw him as a pawn, not as an ally. He wouldn't be able to do it by himself. Ganging up on her wasn't an option either. She was a powerful woman, and they couldn't risk being imprisoned by the church.
Thinking about it only frustrated the warlock more. He wasn't tired and he didn't need sleep, so he was left alone with his thoughts. Logain got out of bed and grabbed his coat. The only person who would be willing to accept his help was Amaris, but Logain didn't know where to search for him. Regardless, Logain couldn't stay in this room for a moment longer. He needed to do something. The warlock ran into the clergyman a few times without meaning to. Maybe he would get lucky this time as well.
Once he was ready, Logain tried to quietly exit his room. He was thankful to Varys for allowing him to stay in his home for the night, but the warlock couldn't stay cooped up for a moment longer. If he was going to make a change, he needed to act now. He would apologize to Casimir later for going against his wishes. If Logain believed he would be in danger, then he would flee before it was too late. He didn't want to die. Thinking about death scared him for once, but the warlock didn't want to continue to live in fear. As long as Meredith was still High Priestess, then Logain would constantly be in danger. He could only avoid her for so long. If Casimir and Logain did get married, he wouldn't be able to stay away from her forever. She was always breathing down the royal family's neck.
Logain listened for any sound as he walked down the halls, but it was quiet in the manor as everyone slept. When Varys showed Logain his room for the night, he and Tristan retired to their own separate rooms as well. By now, they should be asleep. He would be able to escape without them noticing. Not only would he need to apologize to the prince, but he would need to say he was sorry to them as well. Tristan wanted the ring more than anyone, but he also didn't want to put Logain in danger. He would be upset and feel like it was his fault if something happened to Logain.
As the warlock tried to walk past Varys' room, he noticed that it was open a crack. Knowing that he might be awake made Logain come to a halt. He didn't want to alert anyone to his presence as he tried to stay still and listen for any noise. He thought the coast was clear until he heard something coming from Varys' room. Logain felt his heart pick up speed, and he blushed when he recognized what was going on.
Logain knew that something was going on between Varys and Tristan. Hearing their soft moans of pleasure as they made love was enough to confirm that his suspicions were correct. Tristan must not have noticed that he didn't shut the door all the way when entering Varys' room after everyone else went to bed. Logain felt embarrassed as he listened to the sounds, and he tried backing away from the door, only to bump into one of the side tables behind him. He tried to catch the vase in time, but it fell to the ground and shattered.
"Shit," Logain muttered to himself. So much for getting out of the manor without making a noise. When he heard the bed creaking and someone standing up, he knew he was caught.
