Hey friends! This is late, I know, but I'm hoping this chapter makes up for it.
So please enjoy!
Naomi's POV
"So your scans are back." My new doctor, Dr.Thompson, said and sat down in his office chair.
My heart is beating out of my chest. I'm hoping for good news but I'm also prepared if there is no change. I can't read his facial expression right now.
Jayson is beside me of course and he hasn't let go of my hand since we got here thirty minutes ago. They're clammy so I know he's nervous. Whatever the diagnosis is we'll tackle it head on.
He kissed my knuckles and gave me a comforting squeeze. I feel like I can't breathe and my chest feels tight. Just tell me already!
Dr.Thompson took out my scans and sat them on the desk in front of us. Of course we don't know what we're looking at.
"I can confidently say you don't have stage four ovarian cancer."
My hand immediately went to my mouth as I looked at Jayson. "Are you serious?" I asked just above a whisper.
"Yes ma'am." My doctor nodded with a smile. "I don't think you were ever in stage four. At least not from what I can see from these scans and the ones sent over from your other doctor."
I let out a breath and it felt like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I saw Jayson's cheeks turning a shade of red and I know he's holding in his emotions.
I gently rubbed his thigh and focused on the doctor. "Unfortunately you do still have cancer but it's not aggressive. We're looking at stage 2. I know that's not what we want to hear but it's better than what we thought and now we know where to go from here."
"So..." I looked up with tears pooling in my eyes. "I'm not going to die?"
He gave me a comforting chuckle. "No. You're not going to die. Not if I have anything to do with it."
I nodded and the tears dropped. I'm not going to die and I'm going to see my kids grow up. I wish I could give God a big ole hug right now.
"Thank you." I said and reached for a tissue he was extending to me. "So what's our next steps?" I asked while tapping under my eyes.
"Well it actually looks like it's shrinking. You see here?" He showed us both scans and compared. "I believe with 2 more cycles of chemotherapy you can leave this in the past and we'd only see each other so I can check up on you."
"Thank you so much." It's the only thing I can say. He's giving me news that I've dreamt of hearing.
"You're welcome. I'm glad you came to see me."
We wrapped up and Jayson is super quiet. "You know you don't have to hide your emotions from me. It's okay to cry bubba." I spoke softly to him as he drove us home.
"I know baby. I'm happy as fuck right now and so grateful. I was just trying to refrain from crying cause once I started, I wasn't stopping no time soon." He kissed my hand. "I ain't never needed nobody as much as I need you. I promise you they were going to have to bury me with you."
"Stop." I giggled.
"Oh I'm serious." I left a kiss on his arm and laid my head on it afterwards. "Where we going after you beat this thing? Anywhere in the world you want. Whatever your heart desires, you can have it."
I've thought about this before. You know, when I thought I was dying I grieved at the fact that I didn't get to travel to all of the beautiful countries I wanted to visit. But now that I'm near the finish line I want to do everything.
