Everley POV
"My apologies, princess, but your presence isn't needed here any longer," said the butler. Then he shut the door closed while I was left outside of the manor.
I just got here and got rejected?
What?
I turned around and then walked straight, and as I walked away, I saw the gardeners and maids looking at me like they saw a phantom. I ride on my carriage to get back to my palace, and as I get back to my palace, it's the same look that I got with my gardeners and maids.
What's happening?
Why do all of them look so terrified?
They take a bow whenever I look at them, but they're shaking and whispering to each other. I kept on walking around the palace, and whenever I came across the maids, they just bowed their heads in fear.
Did I do something wrong?
My feet dragged me through the palace hallways, and I could hear some ladies laughing.
"Why are the ladies here?" I said to myself as I saw the noble ladies walking towards my direction. "Good day, Princess Everley," they stopped, and Emiliana greeted me while the others did the curtsy.
"What's the ladies reason to be here without my consent?" I said to them with an authoritative tone. "We don't need the princess's consent because we're all here for Lady Cupidia," Emiliana said back to me with an irritating smile on her face.
Cupidia??
"What's your deal with her?" I looked at them with a serious look while the ladies at Emiliana's back flinched at my reaction. "Oh! Calm down, Princess Everley... our business with Lady Cupidia has nothing to do with you because you'll be no use after all," she said, and I was confounded by what she said.
"Princess Everley." I flinched at the sound of the familiar voice. Slowly, I turned, praying that my instincts were mistaken.
"It is an honor to see you again, Your Highness," she said, offering a deep, calculated bow. A cold dread crept over me as her presence confirmed my fears.
"Susy..." I whispered, the name barely escaping my lips, heavy with memory and apprehension.
What is she doing here?
Seeing her makes me remember all those torments.
"Yes! Susy... ladies, would you mind?" Aunt Morana appeared, and I heard the ladies laughing behind me. "I'll be missing you, Princess Everley," Emiliana said as she and the other ladies walked away and left me with Aunt Morana, whose face was full of bad intentions, and Susy, who was ready to control me again.
"Did you enjoy your free time, my sweet niece?" Aunt Morana said while approaching me slowly, and I stood firmly, facing her with a fierce look, trying not to walk backwards.
"I see, you've become more confident, eh? Just because people adore you more," she smiled like a wicked witch, then she put her face close to me, and I was surprised when she grabbed my hair with her right hand. "It's because you're there, last shining ray of the sun! The most adorable child of the late King and the perfect Queen's spitting image! The rising sun princess of the perihelion!" The more she talks, the more she grabs on my hair, and it hurts so much.
